Best Living Spokesman for Atheism

RE: Best Living Spokesman for Atheism
Bingo.  How many nutballs do we get on these boards who open up salvo after salvo against what they perceive to be the "atheist pope" without realizing that none of us actually give a shit.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Or that the terms "atheist pope", "four horsemen" and the like are/were used ironically.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

But how are you attired? Do you really have the hat and the dress to be our pope?

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

There is no one person that is the 'best spokesperson' for atheism.

Many of the prominent atheists have something to contribute to the issue.

I am actually quite partial to Matt Dilahunty. As a non-scientist, with no formal training in philosophy, his debating skills are quite formidable.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Other. Atheism is neither a group, nor a religion, nor an ideology. So, there's no need for spokesmen. Only the ability for critical thinking and making one's own way in life. These posterheads can be amusing at times, inspirational at others and obnoxious on the side. I certainly don't subscribe and never did subscribe to any one of them on my way to becoming an atheist or later on.

I had never heard of any one on that list before I had become an atheist. Maybe that's because there are only anglophone people on this list, and the OP somehow assumed that a spokesperson for atheism must necessarily be such. There are probably skeptics in India who have reached more people, have risked more and made more of an impact against superstition than any of these Americans and Englishmen. The incredible Sanal Edamaruku comes to mind

Of course, I immediately set the record straight, having read only one science book and one book on atheism by the former (and I only liked the science book) and not having read the latter at all, nor having had any interest in further reading of atheist "leaders", because I prefer to form my own ideas based on as broad a knowledge-base as possible.

I have no doubt this very concept is baffling to people who seek to attain truth from the Highest Authority™ via the Divinely Dictated Book Of Ultimate Truth™.

Rocket-

I have mentioned Dawkins here and here.

Would you be so kind as to explain how you have construed from these posts that I have asserted that you or anyone else here "followed Dawkins"?

Thanks.
