Evidence of NDEs
|
There is evidence that there is a period of increased brain activity just before death that could be the cause of NDEs. This phenomenon has been observed and replicated in mice.
This suggests to me that it is possible to reach the point of 'near death' and have some experience when the brain lights up at the end. Then, the lifesaving procedure brings you back just in time to recover and remember some of what happened. Does this mean you were exposed to some element of an afterlife? No. The experience is likely a result of the death throws of your dying brain and the details could be a result of the entirety of your memories, knowledge, and expectations flooding your perception.
Where did the idea of an afterlife originally come from? It's curious to note that elements of NDEs resemble our expectations of the afterlife. When combined with the fact that 1/3 of all NDEs occur in situations not even remotely related to death, one has to wonder if NDEs themselves are the source of our imagery about the afterlife. Surely people have been having NDEs for as long as there have been people if 1/3 don't require any near death experience. So it's possible that NDEs are both the source for our ideas about the afterlife, and the evidence for it. It would be simply a circular proof then.

"Fuck the poor" and "sink or swim" Ayn Rand bullshit is why more people have a harder time being stable. Rich and poor all live on the same planet and all meet the same fate. Some people think our only lot in life is to live to work and die. The fact some people stupidly equate title and paycheck and status and power to morality is not my baggage. My point with the OP is to demonstrate that folks here and elsewhere who use "scare theology" in an attempt to convert others to a particular religion are drawing from a very big barrel of human experience, from alien abductees to NDErs who've claimed to have met Elvis in the afterlife. Fact is that basic scientific experimentation could establish, beyond any doubt, the veridicality of NDEs, but the null result, given the large sample size, speaks volumes. Again, if Big Foot exists, where are his droppings?
A near death experience.... isn't that just Keith Richards every day?

Again, the term "near death experience" does not mean "after death". I am sure those early humans simply shit their harry fur coming close to death. I'm sure it really isn't any different than those who believe it today minus an organized language. When you are scientifically ignorant, especially back then, you see scary things you have no explanation for so you view them as a threat to your survival. And just like today, if you see someone passed out and limp and don't have a medical degree you can falsely assume they are dead, and seeing other dead life including other dead humans is a reminder of your own mortality, and they probably mistook their nightmares and scary events they had no explanation for as being an angry force with human like qualities in the form of nature and animals. It stems from fight or flight and anything that threatens a human's existence is a reminder of their mortality, so the anthropomorphic gap filling is a way of coping, a very poor way. It is a result of our species evolutionary flawed perceptions. |
