I hate anime.

Anime is simply a style. You can get everything from cute kiddy stuff, to fighting action, thoughtful drama, or porn. Styles also vary. I personally dislike the wide eyed females and anything really with Moe women.
I prefer action drama shows. I think Cowboy Bebop is a classic example of an adult anime that many people who don't like anime, will like that show. Currently the anime I'm into is Fullmetal Alchemist. But I haven't really been keeping up with it. I'm not one of those anime fans that watches anything as long as it's anime. I'm very picky.

Indeed I was about to post something in a similar lines. "Wings of Honeamisse" (probably spelled that wrong) is completely different to for instance "Bubblegum Crisis" though both are anime. In the late 80's everything that looked anime was called "Manga" in our country probably because it was one of the first to distribute anime in stores here, which is even worse of a misnomer since "Manga" is not only a brand name, it also means "indecent picture" so it stigmatized anime very much in those years.

Manga (full name Manga Entertainment) is also a brand like Kiseki and dozens of others. They distributed "Ghost in the Shell" and "Urotsukidoji" for instance. Since they were the first ones on the scene in Holland their name got interconnected with the product of anime, like Bahco is interconnected with adjustable spanners in the tool business.

Anime like "Akira" or Neon Genesis is definitely not in the cute category
