This is what passes for moral leadership in the Catholic world. The Vicar of Christ has determined that the molestation of children by his appointed priests is something to be shielded from the people who would stop it.

The response from Catholics is pretty mixed. One Catholic I know basically said "Well most of the kids are just making it up for attention."
If I went to church, and one of my kids was abused by a priest, the Catholic Church would have to worry about reporting something else altogether -- a missing persons report. Because I'd take the priest, tie them up in my basement, and leave them to die.
The whole tone of Church teaching in regard to woman is, to the last degree, contemptuous and degrading. - Elizabeth Cady Stanton

You have to have a master's degree in self-delusion to even be a catholic today.

An elderly family friend scoffed at abuse reports till he passed away a few years ago. He was an altar boy and nothing ever happened to him.
I think we all see the flaw in his logic . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Honestly, who was surprised by that move? It is exactly such shit that I expect from the church.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

This goes way beyond "it's a few rotten apples". This is an admission that the whole framework is corrupt. I'm really surprised they made this so clear. This is telling people that they will ignore the law, and ignore their responsibility to look after the wellbeing of children trusted in their care, and leave it up to the traumatised child to have the guts to say something about it.
Absolutely fucking disgusting. How anyone could continue to support this criminal organisation, by word or by cash, is beyond me. And if you take your kids into this environment...
