Atheism at age 10?

RE: Atheism at age 10?
I was sent to church as a child but around the age of 12 I realised that it was total BS and walked out never to return.

I accepted to be confirmed at age 14 or so because my parents talked me into it, despite being a full blown atheist at the time. I told my parents that and they said "fine, but do it anyways, it's a traditional thing that we do in the family", so I did. I'm not exactly proud of that, but I was young, and it at least got me some Christian street cred . My daughter is not baptised and will not be pressured in either direction (but influenced of course), but of course if she at age 13 decides that she's now a Christian, I'll laugh hard and get wasted.

I really started questioning around 8. Stopped believing entirely within a year and officially stopped participating in anything religious around age 13.

It was about the age of 13 for me.

My parents were not very religious, but definitely god believers.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I was forced by my parents to be an alter boy for a while. (Greek orthodox church).
After the service I went round the back to say goodbye and there's the priest playing cards with the 3 stooges who do the background vocals during the sermons.

At least I left with my sphinter intact! He he ....yeah, never really "got" it.

wow. I'm a late bloomer. I escaped my family's fundamentalism until I left the house and it still took a few years before I dared to contradict them. I was already 24ish!

Good thing is that after my brother and I came out as atheists, my parents and sister did some research and slowly but surely left religion. Better late than never, I suppose.

Certainly! I have great respect for everyone who has been indoctrinated yet manages to see through it. I don't think less of anyone for taking longer. In some ways, it takes more guts when you are older because it requires admitting you've believed in nonsense for longer.
