What's the rush?  He's got 11 more months in office.  He can piss the motherfuckers off any time he likes.

I think it shows a lack of leadership.  The people should already be selected and vetted.

Lack of leadership?  Like POTUS is a vulture waiting for supreme court justices to die.........

Head of state dude, he's got more important (and more frequent) things to arrange plans for.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You are forgetting two very important facts.

1.  This is an election year, and

2.  The American electorate has the attention span of gnats.

If I were Obama I would wait until 10 days before the convention to name someone.  This will leave the republicunts time to lose their fucking minds and give the democratic nominee a chance to act very presidential...as opposed to the shitstorm that the others will be putting on.

I still think the odds of Obama appointing another Souter are significant. Significant enough the 'pubs should accede.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The point being is that the President, whoever it may be, should have candidates already selected to fill each SCOTUS position before the there are any vacancies.  So he has a person selected to fill Justice A, another one to fill Justice B, etc.  Then if the particular vacancy occurs all he has to do is call the candidate and verify that he's still on for the job.   When he says "yes" they get together and announce it.  The President could have people working on that an hour after he takes office.

The vacancies don't spoil........there's no rush.  I'm betting Mins on to something.  They'll find an incredibly useful nominee....for the election cycle, not so much for the courts...and after that gets shot down they cash in their chips and put up another candidate. Win/win.
