Regarding our Rule on Insults (Please read post before voting)

I actually disagree as to locking that thread... it allows some people's stupid suggestions (such as In This Mind suggesting that I 'flat out admitted I was trolling') to go unresponded to... which could leave future readers with her words to go off of.

You could start a new thread and copy the remark into your post and then respond to it.

You do have a point and I think I was slightly disturbed about where it left off. However, I completely forgot that she had said that about you. :/ She didn't quote anything you had said though, so I just kind of ignored it.

I could do that... but as it only slightly irked me, I don't see too much reason for it. Its one of those things I would include in a post, but wouldn't base a post around ^_^

Even with some of the idiocy in the thread, there were genuinely interesting posts that continue to the last pages. I don't think it should have been closed in the first place (especially for the suggestions that it was going in circles, had some insults, and Ely not making idle threats), and would vote for it to be reopened (if only so I can respond to those who addressed me without creating a new thread... which seems to counter the idea of closing it in the first place, frankly).

See... this is the kind of behavior I am talking about Ely. If I dissent with you, I have reason to fear my dissent being deleted or locked... or maybe even a warning if the trend keeps up. Further, i did not say I was starting the thread over here: I am disagreeing with your locking said thread in the first place. Are we not allowed to discuss what the forum staff do? -_-

Synackeon, for the use of word moron, when I specifically forbade it for the this thread to stop being heated and actually be a reasoned discussion. I do not make idle threats.

And when insulting... 'moron' is nothing. Hell... I've called people morons for much less than Syna did in this case. It is more chastising than it is insulting. Frankly, I am impressed by his level of control in not calling her 'You inbred fool'.

It was a reasoned discussion for most of the people posting in the thread... and if there was anyone you should have had words with regarding reasoned discussion with in this post it was the one who continued ignoring reasoned discussion to the end. And that person was far from the whole of the thread.

I don't give a damn that you don't make idle threats... you shouldn't threaten such ridiculous things at all. I've been kicked out of school several times for making idle threats... making threats just doesn't solve problems... and since you locked the thread before anything was solved for In This Mind: this same conversation is doomed to come up later anyway. In the same vein... it might as well have been a part of the same thread you just locked.

Gamerslove, I appreciate you coming from rage_free to share your experience and agree with your arguments 100%, unfortunately the same thing that happened to IHM is happening to you and it has to stop.

It does not have to stop... indeed stopping will simply leave them with their ideas relatively unchallenged. Hell... if they had anything to add to the rational discussion, I would love to read it (and if I'm not mistaken, they both added some small amount of it, as did you). I do not agree with Gamerslove in this situation... and yet I cannot say such in the thread that he/she posted such things as it is locked.

Indeed... I specifically did not respond to you in that thread because I wished to avoid it being locked by you. I would quite love to be able to respond to you in disagreement without some small fear of having the thread locked on me (edit: or deleted on me... which I wouldn't even have realized until I checked this thread after going away for however long they kept us fishing)

I think we can all admit this discussion has gone on far to long. It's time to end.

And I don't think we can. I, for one, do not think that the discussion has gone on far too long. For one... almost every response to ITM and Gameslover was worth reading. Further, a conversation has only gone on too long when it ends on its own. And it was rather active prior to your locking it...

If you have a problem with my decision, take it up with the mods and we'll all discuss it.

I have a problem with your decision... but I'm not going to take it up with the mods specifically. You made the decision in the community, and said it to the community... and I think the community at large should be allowed to discuss your decision.

But for now, it's over, and stick a fork in me, it's done.

'Now' was a while back when you said it... but I do not believe it was done (even if your locking it forced it to be over... or at least forced it out of that thread if anyone wants to comment further).

By all means, discuss what the staff do. However, in this case, that thread went completely over the top towards the end, and it needed locking. A lot of members have agreed it was a good decision, and I'm one of them.

It was locked because all people were doing was throwing insults around. It was hardly the most productive of threads. What was petty was the amount of insults flying around, not the moderation that was put in place to stop it.

Sure, moron is a pretty tame insult, but an insult it was nonetheless, after a specific warning from an Admin not to do it. I didn't see Synackaon complain about it.

It wasn't an idle threat, it was a real threat. A real threat that was quickly executed when people ignored it. For the record, In This Mind left the forums way before Eilonnwy shut the thread. If the conversation is doomed to come up again, so be it. At least people have had some time to breathe and chill in between; maybe it won't be so fiery next time.

I have a problem with your decision... but I'm not going to take it up with the mods specifically. You made the decision in the community, and said it to the community... and I think the community at large should be allowed to discuss your decision.

The community don't make the rules here, nor do they enforce them. We do. The community can discuss any decision made by the staff, but ultimately it is up to the staff whether that decision was a good one or not. I can't speak for any other staff, but I'm fully in support of the decision made.
