RE: Game of Thrones Season 6 Discussion [SPOILERS WITHIN]
April 18, 2016 at 6:18 am
I do hope we finally visit the Greyjoys!
But... there hasn't been much in that direction in the teasers...
...
What we have:
- Tyrion in Meereen
- Cersei waging war against the religious power she helped raise.
- Bran doing something cryptic
- Theon and Sansa trying to escape Winterfell.... while Theon's sister (Asha, in the books.... Yara, in the show) attacks(?)... searches for Theon(?)
- Daenerys goes over the whole impress the Khal thing again... boring!
- Arya goes on to learn some more lessons on how to become faceless..... now eyeless!
- Is Jaime back with Cersei?
Meanwhile, they say nothing about what's going on
- At the wall - Jon Snow dead for good? What's Melisasndre up to?
- Brienne... what's she doing? waiting, for a sign of Sansa?
- Dorne gets left behind.... again. I was kinda liking the sand snakes...
- Sam's story... off to the Citadel to become a proper Maester... I don't even remember if that happens in the show!

Maybe not. The actor who plays Areo Hotah (one of my favorite ancillary characters) was featured in some of the promos and was at the premiere.

All this is up for grabs. I think I remember Jon sending Sam off to the Citadel. He wasn't there... at... the end.

I remember a particular blond chick burning on a pyre.... then things happened.
Also, isn't fire Melisandre's element?

Sansa's bailing out with Theon, in the midst of some chaos... how will Brienne know what's going on?

Maybe so. But where Asha Greyjoy is, there be snow. Winter is coming, after all. (not sure why I find the need to talk like a pirate when speaking of the Greyjoys.)

Things will happen! Allegories abound!

Sansa's bailing out with Theon, in the midst of some chaos... how will Brienne know what's going on? See.. I don't think so. I think part of Brienne's character arc is seeing the shades of grey. She is pledged to the Starks yet carries a sword of Lannister gold, reforged from Ned's sword Ice. She idolizes Jaime a bit, even though he is the worst of oathbreakers. I think she is learning to think like a Lannister in a lot of ways, in that she needs to take advantage of opportunities, and not be as naive to think that honor always prevails. Also, it would juxtapose her with Stannis in a big way.
But I'm probably reading way too much into it.

I was sad to see the Arys Oakheart storyline go away. Can't have it all, I suppose.

Tiny correction... Sword of Valyrian steel... Lannister gold armor.
Her job is to keep the Stark girls safe. Arya is beyond her help and she knows it... so Sansa it is.
Teaming up with a dying or dead usurper would probably not be the best move.... talk about picking the losing side!
Plus, she works best on her own.
I think she did finish Stannis off and will maybe help Asha (or get in the way....)

A sword blade of gold wouldn't be very useful... But the hilt/scabbard is inlaid with gold, which is why Arya reacts to it when she sees it in the Vale.
Also, there is quite a role reversal between Sam and Gilly there on the boat, no? Of course with Aemon dead already and Jon not making the switch with Val's baby, Gilly needn't be the inconsolable one.

ah, indeed.
All that Val storyline was thrown out the window... "the blood of the king beyond the wall" would have fit nicely into Melisandre's plan... now, Stannis "is dead", as well as his daughter... so... no king's blood around for the fire witch to play with... :þ
And the "singer" that should have gone to Winterfell, with a few girls, to help with the wedding party...?
That never happened... me haz sad.

Daenerys was alive when she burned. That's why fire didn't do anything to her. Maester Aemon, on the other hand, who is fully a Targaryen, was burned on a pyre as well, but he was dead already, so nothing happened. I seem to recall Jaime saying he made sure his king(another Targaryen) never got the chance to "rise again" through fire by killing him with his sword. What would make us think half a Targaryen would do better under similar circumstances? He wouldn't. Lady Melisandre would have to revive him or he would have to go into Ghost and live as a direwolf - though, I'm not sure if he's a warg just like his brother- I can't remember much from the books.
Lady Melisandre bailed on Stannis because she realized she misinterpreted the signs The Lord Of Light showed her in the fire. Yes, she saw Winterfell conquered and all that, but nothing in particular about Stannis. Maybe Stannis was just a means to an end, Jon was the real promised warrior.

He's supposed to be alive while warging... I consider it more like a remote control thing than a complete conscience transfer.
But.... to be honest... it's not made explicit.

But.... to be honest... it's not made explicit. I think it's a complete conscience transfer. I seem to recall in the books they described one wildling's going into his controlled animals' consciousnesses after he died in his human form. No reason same thing couldn't happen with a Stark warg. But do we even know that Jon is a warg? I don't know.
