NC Gov on the wrong side of history......
RE: NC Gov on the wrong side of history......
Whoa! And when I went to watch TLR again, myself, I saw this ad from Absolut. Way to go, Absolut!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgHCzV2F...verified=1
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

That made me cry. Why can't everyone be like the character in the ad? Isn't it easier and nicer to go through life being accepting rather than bigoted and horrible?

I expect nothing less from Absolut, they've been vocally pro-LGBT for a long time, before it was popular opinion. However, I think the ad seems a little rushed to me with that script, like the actor had to rush to fit all the lines into a one minute ad, but I appreciate the message, it's sweet.
"Adulthood is like looking both ways before you cross the road, and then getting hit by an airplane"  - sarcasm_only

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

The whole campaign is done in that staccato voice-pattern, because it's a lot to tell in 30 seconds, or a minute.

They have a couple of other good ones, one about a wife who has lost her husband, but his friends come over to see her, they hug, and go out to party all night in celebration of her lost husband's life. The other's about helping a friend smile after he ended a relationship.

It's a really powerful series of emotions, in all of them. Kudos to their ad people. Positive social message while yet pimping your poison. Even if it is pretty tasty poison. Smile

I actually looked at a YouTube comments section for the first time in years.

I haz a sad now.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I typically like Amiri King. However, on that video, he's exhibiting more than a little bit of selection bias, "counting the hits while ignoring the misses", so to speak. There have been many violence-prone, belligerent idiots on both sides of that political furball, from out on the fringes of each movement. People on both sides who point to the extremes are idiots to do so, unless they can demonstrate that such attitude is shared by the ordinary member, or the majority of the membership of the group being described. He doing what is called a Hasty Generalization fallacy, in other words.

If you think for a moment that the people to whom Amiri is referring in that video are representative of "YOU LIBERALS!", then you've been watching waaaaaayyyyy too much Faux News.

Oh, and I think it should be pointed out that not all of us are liberals. Far from it, in fact. However, our conservatives tend to be a bit more broad-minded than appears to be the average, and do not bring religious prejudices into their thinking, so they tend to disagree with what I'm fairly certain at this point would be your position on many things, from science to Constitutional rights.

Edit to Add: In all seriousness, why would any conservative want to expand the government's reach into private lives, such as one of the most private of all acts, the use of restrooms? It's not a conservative position, and only the Christian prejudices being enacted into law cause this strange "inter-species" ideological marriage to be possible.

hmmm....since obama and loretta lynch's justice dept. are pushing in favor of transgenders using the bathrooms of the sex they identify with, what's to keep a child molester, or a voyeur, or a rapist from saying he identifies with being a woman just to gain access to women's restrooms? Have obama and lynch put any safeguards in place to prevent something like this from happening? The NC law seems to be the only safeguard at this point.

Whats to stop sexual predators from pretending they're women with these "protective" laws in place?

Are you gojng to put cops on every communal bathroon door and mandate they give a groinal squeeze to every single person who enters?

Well when you consider the genesis of conservative movements in Europe, which was essentially groups of monarchists getting together and implementing a policy of returning (or keeping) the absolute monarchist systems being then eroded in their countries. In fact the original Conservative party grew out of the old Tory party (named after an anglisation of an Irsh word for brigand), who thought the civil war and later glorious revolution were a horrible mistake, it makes sense. Conservative means preserving the mores of the past in the present a lot more than it means economic liberalisn.
