So, your contention is that political systems, drug syndicates and oligarchs don't make for hellholes on a national scale? Tell me, under what circumstance would a corrupt political system, powerful drug syndicates, and an oligarchy make for a country that wasn't a hellhole?

And not getting any opportunity at landing a decent job or any job at all. Not that working in a foreign country for a pittence would be that much better, but it's hard to fight the illusion of opportunity. Even more so if you're only presented with the ideal and not the reality.
