To be fair, the OP is an Austrian...
But still, yeah, some of the people who don't know they confuse patriotism with nationalism are way too horny about the flag.
To be fair, though, it carries more symbolism in its lore than for most countries.
Also, for the last 60 years, we've been telling our children to chant at it for 13 years of their lives.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

But why? That's just brainwashing, to put it simply. And it's fucking dangerous. Britain isn't perfect but at least we don't indoctrinate our kids into thinking we're the greatest country on earth and all that shit.

Preaching to the choir, sista. If I were in school now, I would be firmly planted in my seat.
It is a remnant of the red scare and the Cold War. A response to the Soviets by...doing something that is so fascist in nature as to be firmly in the land of irony.

I was assuming the response to the OP saying we Americans are so tied up in our flag, but I see now that you were likely just prompted by the OP rather than responding to him.

Glad you agree.

Yeah, I was more addressing the whole thread rather than just the OP.

You know, I'm thinking more along the lines of historical heritage. The things you want to find in some museum because it's an important part of you history. Can be good or bad, but these items are significant and belong to the public.
In our case, it would be something like the car in which archduke Franz Ferdinand met his fate or his bloodied uniform. They're witness to the first shots fired in WWI and I guess such items aren't as inflationary as flags. But D day was a pretty important date also. The fact that they expect to get some 80.000 bucks also point to them not being exactly sold at every corner shop.

If this means that there won't be anymore women's stars and stripes bikini's I'm not joining. That's where I draw the line. Are you a commie? hehehe
Be fair if you were at an event and the women were told to take off their stars and stripes bikini's. I think you may change your mind

In an aflagist country there would be nothing to take off. They would all be wearing $100 bill bikinis.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
