I don't think anyone likes mass shootings. Not even the right. But the GOP and NRA are in the pockets of big business. It is the same feet dragging that took big oil to get lead out of gas. The same feet dragging that Nader had to face car companies with. The same fear big oil uses to prevent the world from getting off fossil fuels.

It is simple needless fear that gun worshipers buy into. The same stupid fear my mom has that causes her to vote republican despite the fact she agrees with me on every single issue up until I mention party label.

And talking about religion and mass shootings is yet another propaganda tool in the NRA's arsenal. The truth remains that the majority of gun injury and deaths is not from mass shootings or terrorism, but use of guns in the home/neighborhood.

And as far as I know, I'm still yet to hear of a mass shooting taking place in a school in Europe. Might be wrong, but if it ever has happened here it's exception, not something that happens every month.

From April 26, 2002 to October 27, 2014, there were 14 European school shootings with 66 killed.

I've seen this myself. Religion doesn't add anything to our beliefs or attitudes other than making them "sacred." People have been coming up with stupid, specious, bullshit metaphysics for millennia (and still are), and most of it has been forgotten, except for the stupid, specious bullshit that won the battle for religious orthodoxy. 

And likewise with bigotry. You can find misogynistic men whose masculinity is threatened by homosexuality anywhere, even among atheists. All religion does is take toxic attitudes like that and by fiat confer upon them the status of moral justification.
