Why I left the Republican Party to become a Democrat

I want to focus on a fourth group: Republican politicians who understand exactly how dangerous Donald Trump is, but who have chosen to support him anyway for reasons of strategy, careerism, or cowardice.
Cowards and scoundrels
I am talking, for example, about Sen. Marco Rubio, who in the primary called Trump an "erratic individual" who must not be trusted with nuclear weapons — and then endorsed him for president.
I am talking about Sen. Ted Cruz, who called Trump a "pathological liar" and "utterly amoral" — and then endorsed him for president, even though Trump never apologized for threatening to "spill the beans" on Cruz's wife and suggesting Cruz's father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Most of all, I'm talking about House Speaker Paul Ryan, a man whose pained, blue eyes suggest he desperately wants to cry for help. He's a man who runs around the country pathetically trying to pretend that Trump does not exist and that the key issue is his congressional caucus' "Better Way" agenda. And he's a man who, of his own free will, seeks to help Donald Trump become president.
These men are not fools like Ben Carson.

An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton, or Why I am Changing Teams.

Dear Mrs. Clinton, I owe you a huge apology. I have spent a lifetime voting for RNC candidates and listening to their rhetoric, including the things they say about you. And I'll be honest, I had planned to vote for Bernie this year because I knew I could never vote for Donald Trump. I knew this way before the 2005 tape emerged.

When you won the DNC nomination, I began researching you and the other candidates who were left. I was amazed at all of the accomplishments you have made on behalf of women and children. The Clinton Foundation, which I knew practically nothing about, and which I found out is one of the most highly rated nonprofits in existence is a remarkable organization. I actually got teary reading about all of the outstanding work that it does around the world. 

So, it is with pride that I say, “I'm with her!”

700 Christian women revolt against pro-Trump pastors: ‘The sin of misogyny’ causes sexual assault

Many male evangelical leaders — like Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins and James Dobson — have only doubled down on their support of Trump in light of recent allegations that he has abused at least nine women.
The Christian Post reported on Monday that over 700 Christian women had come forward to speak out against the GOP nominee and the church leaders who support him.
“As Christian women we are appalled by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s recorded remarks that disparage women and condone sexual assault. Such language cannot be dismissed as ‘locker room talk,'” the letter states. “The sin of misogyny has caused many of us to experience sexual assault or sexually abusive language that threatened our safety, dignity and well-being.”
The letter goes on to call out “Christian leaders” who “condone such violent speech about women as a minor mistake or an innocent attempt to be ‘macho.'”

The GOP Bloodbath: Roger Stone Threatens Donald Trump

“It turns out the entity with which I signed a non-disclosure agreement for the Trump campaign was never legally constituted,” Roger Stone tweeted on Sunday, adding the hashtag “#invalid.” The message couldn’t have been more clear: he’s threatening to spill the beans on Trump, despite the fact that the two men have been friends for decades. Stone had been a political advisor to the Donald Trump campaign last year before quitting in a dispute over the direction in which Trump was taking his candidacy. But according to numerous accounts, Trump has continued to rely on Stone’s advice from time to time in an informal capacity. However today’s tweet was a clear throwing down of the gauntlet, and in public no less.
