Insomniac support and tips
#11
RE: Insomniac support and tips
Don't drink red wine to sleep. A true insomniac will just wake up early and buzzed. Personally I have grown accustomed to the 4-6 hour sleep with the inner monkey alarm going off (sometimes 5-6 times a night). I believe us insomniacs did better in our primordial past. The sleepy heads were left behind to deal with the bears. I do become overcome with drowsiness throughout the day though. I try not to take naps while I am driving.
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!

I used to be able to smoke enough weed to knock myself out, but nowadays it just makes me more alert. I work nights and I find it difficult to sleep during the day, especially in the summer, so I often end up sleeping every other day and on my nights off. It's hardly an ideal situation, but it hasn't killed me so far...

ETA - Oh, and I also try to nap for an hour or 2, while at work. I've come to realize, that I sleep much easier, when I'm being paid for it... Tongue

RE: Insomniac support and tips
I can relate on so many levels, CD. My mind goes at a rate of 100 mph and I can't get it to shut off. Every once in a while a melatonin helps. I cannot ever take scripts like Lunesta or the like because they cause me to become non-functional once I wake up. By non-functional, I mean I am awake and I can talk to you, but I cannot move, I literally cannot move. It's very scary to know that you are literally paralyzed for a few hours and you are helpless to do anything.

I have been pulling more and more all-nighters lately. I don't like it. But my biggest problem is not being able to shut down my brain. I also end up having to take a nap around 11am. I don't like broken sleep at all.

I just can't shut off at all. Been like that pretty much all my life, and have been taking 10mg of melatonin for a while now. It just doesn't do anything.

Didn't sleep much last night. I know I was awake until at least 2:30 and I was wide awake and up at 6:00.

How many nights in the last week is that? I don't know. Tongue

I need to get at least 6 tonight.

Allergies can cause insomnia--food allergies, seasonal allergies, allergies to dust, etc. (symptoms can range from anaphylactic shock to much milder discomfort). If the allergic reaction is mild enough, it might not be obvious that you have it; for me, things like soy just cause watery eyes and uneven heartbeat, and it's in everything, so it took me a while to realize I was allergic to it.
