The sanest of my relatives are Southern Baptists, hardcore SoBaps. The worst are snake handlers. The ones in between are Kluxers, Oathkeepers, moonshiners, drug smugglers, and worse.

I'm pretty sure, I have some crazy religious family. Some of my grandfather's cousins and nephews were orthodox jews. They're probably still around and have reproduced. But I wouldn't know. After my grandfather died, the broke all contact. They couldn't live with him marrying a divorced christian woman anyway and took the chance to cut ties over his grave.
I've got a cousin of some sort who chain-yanks my mom's atheist common-law husband on FB, but because I don't often go on, and much more rarely post regarding religious bullshit, he hasn't tagged my page.
Most of my family are religious, but sensible. We were always raised that faith is a private thing.
My family are from Northern Ireland. Locally speaking, they aren't crazy at all. Anywhere else, they'd be in a wet-pack.

There's only a few sensible people on his side of the family. It's a surprise he managed to turn out as sane as he did. Though to be fair he's not the only atheist in his family (well, he wasn't in any case. He is now, since his Atheist Aunt died). Every year they invite us to their reunion, and every year we come up with some excuse not to show up. But I still sort of look forward to hearing stories from people who do go. Just to see how crazy it gets. Most of my family is batshit crazy fundie. My brother, thankfully, is also an atheist, as is my 1st cousin Rob. My Aunt Barbara claims to be christian, but never attends church and is very open-minded. The rest of 'em would fit right in with your husband's family. They pray for the rapture daily, and believe the bible is literal fact. I have another first cousin who is a Baptist preacher in Tennessee - - 'nuff said.

I have 3 Christians in my family that I'm aware of. They take it seriously, but they aren't crazy with it. Everyone else doesn't care about religion as far as I know.

. . . now, as for crazy alcoholic relatives . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
My mother is okay. She`s not crazy about religion (thankfully she never baptized me), but she has this funny things, that she`s going to church twice every year, for Christmas and Easter to pray! Which she`s not doing all year, but only 2 days a year.
I think it`s just that she was raised in a semi-religious family and village. So it`s like she can`t get free of religion, because she feels that she needs to go to church, she feels GUILTY, if she doesn`t go :/ Brainwashing as its finest.
I wouldn't call my family particularly crazy, but rather thick headed. Like super thick. I don't ever touch the topic of mormonism with them anymore unless it's a knee jerk reaction in anger...which I try to avoid. I even avoid making social comments about religion, cool statistical ideas, or scientific advancements. They all find it rather dull since they are caught up predominantly in the fantastical and mystical omniscient creator which has paved the way for such a beautiful story of Absolutism and Treasure Seeking through his Beloved Prophet Joseph Smith. I can't blame them though, I wish I believed in magic and miracles and the obvious conclusion that Mormon's are right and the new chosen people. But they're not crazy. My ex-wifes family? My GAWD. Now that is some crazy going on there. Never will I again step into an apostolic church.

LOL, guess I'm blessed [snicker] not having any Mormon relatives.
It would be so difficult to not rub their noses in the unholy mess surrounding Joseph Smith's 'First Vision' (the exact year of that isn't even known, nor any of the details for sure since he approved several inconsistent versions and dictated a few more that also don't agree, and wrote yet another one in his own hand that is also different) and as we all know, if the 'First Vision' is false, then everything else is too. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
