Is white privilege real? To what extent?

We have never disagreed 100% of the time Ryth.   It was great fun and only contributes to my education even further. I think we can draw a line through the thread since I think all arguments have been exhausted and no stone has been left unturned so, there is a stalemate. No one is right, no-one is wrong, we have simply reached an impasse in a debate.

Also just to reiterate I also think that lumping groups together is precisely what the phrase white privilege does.

It lumps together all white people of all nations, religions, circumstances, economic statuses, health levels and age.

I am not, have not, and will not speak about the privileges (or lack thereof) of the races in other nations, because I don't have the grasp of knowledge I feel would be required to speak intelligently. If it helps understanding, I have been and will only be speaking of the American context.

And lumps together all non white people which as you pointed out is irrational since black people and Asians do have totally different circumstances and so often enjoy the privileges some people would say are white privileges.

I don't agree. Privilege in this context is not talking about the people themselves, but rather, about social attitudes towards social groups. When I'm talking about white privilege in America, I am not talking about whites in America. I am talking about the social attitudes and power structures that accord different treatment to the different races.

Climb down from the cross there. He can't put you on ignore because he's a moderator, and he cannot ban you absent a clear infraction of rules and a quorom of staff agreement.

There's the rub, the correct usage of the term -doesn't- lump together all white people of all nations, religions, circumstances, economic status, health, or age.  Just like it doesn't claim that being white will make a nicer house in a whiter neighborhood appear in front of a white person, unless they squander it.  

OFC, a correct usage of the term wouldn't leave us any room to wonder whether or not it existed and feel slighted somehow, personally...for having other people mention it...so....there's always that.

As someone who was on staff here for four years including two or so as an admin, I can assure you that no, he does not. Not technically, and not as a matter of policy.

Thread banning isn't even a thing here.
