There are mentally ill people all over the world, in other cultures and religions, that claim that various deities/demons are telling them to kill themselves.
I'll bet you don't believe that Muslims that claim that Iblis is telling them to kill themselves, are actually hearing Iblis. You'd probably mark that up to mental illness.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

God damn. This is something that always concerns me. The things religious people say are going on in their head sound so similar to the symptoms of actual mental illness. So how do you tell the difference? In this case, the kid is quite probably mentally ill and hearing voices, and her fucking indoctrination is making her think it's the devil.
She needs to see a medical professional right away.
And Drich goes and proves my point for me.

IF that were the case...
Then the matter of the brain "not acting right" would need to be addressed all the same, wouldn't it? Whatever would be happening as result of the malfunctioning brain chemistry would be secondary to correcting and/or treating the actual cause, I would think.
If plaque build-up caused you to hear real demonic voices, wouldn't you go brush your teeth?
