Trump Speaks Like Regular Folk

I'm pretty sure that a man as accomplished as Trump could use big words in long sentences if he wanted. But he doesn't, maybe because it isn't important to him. How many people do you know that speak like they are writing a term paper? Only people that make their living by speaking and writing, like pundits, reporters, and politicians word-smith the hell out of everything they say. That's their product. They sell words. Trump is a developer/builder. His products are physical structures. To him words are just a means to an end. He doesn't worry about all the possible connotations and implications of what he says. People, like me, are tired of being talked at with condescension by academics, wonks, and statesmen, who talk a good game and know what everyone else should be doing but who never built anything in their lives.

Chad, it looks like spending so much time believing in the undetectable has predisposed you to mistake a dog with lipstick for a pretty woman.

Oh, be fair.  Trump is nothing if not authentic.  Authentically stupid, mostly.

Trump Isn't Sure Who He's Running Against

Quote:Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took a shot Wednesday at Hillary Clinton's running mate, Democratic U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, for doing a terrible job as governor of New Jersey.

The problem, of course, is that Kaine was governor of Virginia.

This is exactly the kind of thing I think Chad was posting about.  Trump is out there just letting fly in those press conferences.  If he says the wrong state by mistake, he just says "oops, I meant virginia."?  Hillary won't make a mistake like that.  But I imagine it's because she hasn't said anything in years that hasn't been run through a couple focus groups first.  At least that's how I imagine the perception is for a lot of people.

Or perhaps she is simply better educated, engaged and up on current events than the guy who tweets all day.

Yes, it is true. A lot of people speak like racist, stupid, bigots. And those people support Trump because they see he is like them. He makes it ok, again, to be an outward jerk. People don't like holding in their ugly thoughts. Tribalism at it's worst.

None of that makes him a good candidate for presidency, or the people voting for him smart people, though.

But that is the job of a GOOD politician. To try and see how what they say and do affect the world around them, and tailor it so that the effects they have are positive, or at least change things in a way they desire.
That is literally THEIR JOB.  And he doesn't worry about it.  That is why he will be terrible at it, if he gets this job.

Quite the opposite. I tend libertarian and Trump is about as far from that as can be. If anything he's challenged many of my assumptions. I've had to go back rethink my understand of Adam's "Wealth of Nations". I've had to reconsider what I'd been taught about immigration history. For quite some time, I've been questioning the artificial ideological divides that don't do anything but support and encourage corruption and cronyism. There are no Democrats or Republicans anymore. We've been living under a one-party system of Insiders. Trump supporters know that. Bernie supporters know it, too.

Maybe.  I can't recall the last time I heard her not speaking in clearly prepared/practiced talking points.

'Just letting fly'? That's the plus, seriously?

Oh sure.  That way you can be certain he has given no considered thought to anything he says.  Just like plain folks.
