Donald Trump has been officially declared a loser.

Yeah, exactly the point. The name-convention has changed there. I don't think it signals much aside from a desire to keep alive storied names, though. America and the UK have done this as well.

It signals to Japan's immediate neighbors Japan now thinks refreshing a fond memory of names associated both with and outside Japan with its militaristic past serves japan's domestic political purpose more than conducting itself to reassure its neighbor of determination to break with that past.
While one may always claim warship names are but apolitical reflection of beaucratic procedure, the truth is with major warships it is always in each and every instance systematically calculated to signal or serve a domestic political need.
So should america get scared when us brits bring back a ship name? No. Because its just a name. It's stupid to get all agitated over a simple ship name .

You should be concerned if Germany revised all her secondary school textbooks to say the holocaust never happened, Germany did not invade other countries during WWII but merely "entered" those other countries out of justifiable self defense, and yes, Germany regrets innocent foreigners suffered, but Germany committed no culpable war crimes and is morally no worse than any other country involved in that war. Furthermore, the chancellor and members of her cabinet took up making official annual pilgrimages to a shrine housing the remains of hermann goering, Wilhelm keitel, and Heinrich himmler, and Germany just named a major warship Bismarck, after breaking with long practice of not reusing names of major warships from WWII. The exact analogue all applies to Japan. (August 7, 2016 at 7:38 am)Anomalocaris Wrote:(August 7, 2016 at 7:24 am)Jello Wrote: So should america get scared when us brits bring back a ship name? Visiting a shrine to war criminals and naming a ship something from a war are two very different things, so don't give me that crap. And nice one for the germans, hopefully it won't sink like the last one

Japan is our close ally and to say that is absurd and sick. Yes, not for the rulers, but for the population itself. I really cannot stand my species failing to see evolution itself. When those bombs were dropped we were not hitting armed military, we killed unarmed human beings of all ages including kids and babies. The hell I don't get to talk about it, how dare you. My x-wife's family lived it, especially her grandparents and her parents. They are decent people regardless of being enemies at the time. We are not a sub species. I only blame the rulers of that time. Just like I don't blame modern Germans for what Hitler did, their population were lead by the wrong person too.
Don't forget all the firebombing, either. Sure, japan may have started that shit, but the people suffered for their rulers decisions heavily.
