Because I'm curious how our friend answers that question. One is along his simplistic lines. The other one is in agreement with the scientific community. Why should I spoil the fun?
I await your explanation of those events, since you're apparently a historian. I don't particuarly give a shit what Jehanne thinks happened.

And after that Mehmet ordered to burry them with all honors. You know that the three days plunder was international law (international law) by the standards of the time for every city that didn't surrender? Of course you don't. But it's a fact. Precedence in 1204.

How are you not getting this? Are you just being willful or what?
I understand what you're saying. As an atheist, I do stand for certain values, namely, rational and scientific inquiry of the World, Universe and Cosmos. For me, such a stance leads to atheism, whether negative or positive atheism. Even liberal religionists do not value the scientific method fully, as being the foundation for all of human inquiry. Even artistic insights and aesthetics can be examined in a fMRI machine, not to mention statistical studies.

Yes, he conquered their city, killed their population, and then plundered their assets, converting the most sacred Church in all of Byzantium into a Muslim Mosque.

I arriveed at these standards before beng an atheist. I was brought up looking at these standards. But they are not what make or break me.

You shouldn't give a shit what I think; what you should care about are revisionist freaks like Pope Francis who will try to convince you that the Fall of Constantinople was "just economics" and that the Islamic religion was not a substantial motivator, let alone the principle motivator, in the conquest of Christian and pagan lands.

No, he didn't kill the population as far as medieval killings go. He absorbed them and granted the christians free exercise of their religion. Granted, with increased taxes. But that's more than any christian ruler of the time did.
And again, law of the time was a three days plunder for the troops, if a city didn't surrender. Again, look at 1204. For fucks sake, present at least some knowledge if you want to argue.

Fuck Pope Francis.
I'm more interested what our historian friend has to say about this stuff.

The scientific method, a stance, leads to atheism. This is why most leading scientists are atheist:

Yeah, fuck him (Pope Francis), but he has influence; that's why we ought to stand up for real history and not revisionist bullshit, even if we are not real historians.
