My grandmother would have to be quite out of it to believe I suddenly converted while she was dying. No one else in the room would believe me, and the same likely holds for the OP. I wouldn't bother lying to someone on their deathbed. Even if I loved them.

Lie or don't lie, it's about the same results.Whatever makes you able to live your life. Saying A false statment to make someone feel better is quite wrong. If friend who is a female, your a male, and your not dating her; asks you if she looks good in outfit. If the outfit does not fit her body well, it's best to tell her the truth to avoid her embarrassing her self in front of others.

Fuck you and your stupid prayers, you shithead.
And I don't know Mamacita, but some people take that stuff seriously. Guilt is a weapon wielded by religitards with great abandon. You are obviously a shithead who thinks his fucking imaginary 'god' would help.

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to respond. Went to see grandma and rallied up other cousins. We ended up being quite a lot of folks with her. It was very mortifying, because she kept talking as if she was saying goodbye, and she kept saying she was ready to go. It was also nice, because lost family relationships were restored. It was bitter sweet. She has some medical stuff going on today. I don't know what will happen. All I know is that we'll be there with her. No prayers were made. She just asked us to sing hymns. No problem. I know plenty.
Thanks again.

I'd have no issue with offering her that particular measure of peace and/or comfort in her final moments.
It's not as if it would actually cost me anything.
I'm glad you're not alone...Hang in there, Mama.

Hey, friends.
Just a quick update. Grandma is back at the hospital. It's been difficult, since she doesn't really want to get better. She's tired. Seems like she could get better if she wanted to. So... well, we'll see.
Thanks for the mountains of support I've received. Every time one of you messages me, texts me, anything, I melt a little. I'm becoming a gooey jolly rancher on everyone's foot. ![Smile Smile](https://atheistforums.org/images/smilies/smile.gif) Thank you.

One of them I haven't spoken to in about 10 years. Never will. I had an aunt who was like a grandma, but I lost her to cancer. So, this is my grandma in bed, very weak and kind of "out". Doctors watching her say she's tired and depressed. They're looking for other things, too.
Skip the emotional part, because oh mah gah it hurts.
When my aun died, I was holding her hand. She asked me to pray for her. I was still a believer, so I prayed. She was looking up and smiling. She said, "God, my savior, I'm ready for you to take me. All my children will continue for me. Take me home." She then sang worship songs in a state of elation until she passed.
My grandma is a religious fundie. She has hurt at the knowledge that some of us no longer serve the church. So my question is, and oh gawd it hurts to think about it, if she doesn't get better, would you fake a prayer? Would you pretend to believe, so she can pass away comfortably?
Thank you.
It depends for me, I went atheist at a period when my aunt's Alzheimer's was diagnosed (she was a nun), so I would never have considered broaching the subject with her. Now if it were only her kindeys were wrong with her, I'd have probably talked to her about it. With my mother, long may she live, I wouldn't be able to pretend, because she knows already that I'm an atheist.
