I would bet this is the most likely scenario:

1) You present evidence that this argument is a load of shit, either by the fact that it works with the Quran and Moby Dick, and the fact that it's an argument from incredulity

2) He abandons it and moves on to another ad-hoc or prepared rationalization about "why he believes", which is also not why he believes

People don't believe for these bullshit reasons. You can cut them down all day and it makes no difference. These are "feel better" reasons after the fact.
