What philosophical evidence is there against believing in non-physical entities?

RE: What philosophical evidence is there against believing in non-physical entities?
We've got two people who claim to be speaking to ghosts and gods, respectively...in this thread, criticizing others for some perceived failure of critical thought?
........................
Sure it'll turn real pissy when we treat those claims with -precisely- the level of respect, dignity, and acknowledgement they deserve.

I'll give you a very quick demonstration that almost everyone who claims to be receiving messages from God is, in fact, not:

People making such claims disagree with each other about what God says and wants.

The only other explanation is that he intentionally misleads almost everyone. In such a case, any messages from him should be disregarded.

Oh, hey, another misplaced burden of proof.

People can make whatever claims they like. They can really believe they are true, even if they aren't.

The fact that many people all make similar unfounded claims is not evidence that the claims are true. It is an appeal to popularity fallacy.

I would agree... contradictory claims cannot both be true!

I think the Kantian realization that the world is dependent on our senses causes us to to doubt that we can contain the world in language or our thoughts. Science has not disproved the existence of other dimensions.

Why would people be unwilling to acknowledge the possibility that spiritual entities exist? I talk to them every day and they talk back to me, using English words and language. I am sure this is real and most societies have had some sort of concept of this. Why would people be unwilling to acknowledge there could be other life besides human life?

I wholeheartedly accept that their is life other than human life.

It seems a sensible principle, yes.

This puts everyone who claims to be having any sort of communication "from God" in an extremely dubious position. They are either the only one getting it right, or they are deluded. Statistically, they are deluded, even if God is actually talking to anyone at all.

The fact so many people really believe God talks to them through leaves and such shows how the underlying truth matters so little when the belief is so strong.

You seem to have had trouble with the quote function, since I don't see my name on it and it doesn't seem in character for you to leave it off deliberately. I know context may be too much to ask for, but in future please remember to use my handle when quoting me.
