Having been cut off from most in my family for years, and not speaking to my parents for decades over choices I made in my life, I couldn't put them through any of that shit.

I hope I don't come off as insensitive, but I'm curious, 'cause I don't have any kids and don't know what that's like. Would you love them less if they murdered most of humanity, for example?

If any of them ever murdered most of humanity I will let you know if my current feelings change. I was speaking from personal experience about things that have happened in my family.

Glad to see you back.

This sounds like one of those school yard questions where whatever you answer someone's going to say "ha so that means you're gay!!!"

My parents would probably rather hear that I don't want the love of Jesus Christ rather than wanting the love of Jesus Christ in the form of anal sex.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I was just being hypothetical, I wasn't trying to upset you or doubt your attachment to your family or anything like that. I guess I was being silly, sorry.

I know from experience too, that I'm far more willing to overlook certain things where family is concerned. I was wondering if loving your children can be different and superior to that(because of the responsibility you feel for them, for one) and how far would that go, does one think. But we don't have to talk about it if it's inappropriate or anything like that.

Thank you. I don't blame you if that was sarcastic, though.

But who does't want some of this?  Heart

RE: gay or atheist?
My parents aren't small-minded assholes, so neither would have been an issue. I've been unashamedly, openly atheist since my teens. As for gay? At this point, in my 49th year with four children and three grandchildren (another on the way), I suppose their reaction would be, "Well, you sure hid that one well!"

Interesting to note that OP has almost as many threads as he does posts. It's getting a bit spammy.

RE: gay or atheist?
Most parents who were against both would probably prefer their child to be atheist as they could still have hope that they would change their mind in the future.
