I'm a redneck and your generalization is bullshit. I'm not a fuckin hillbilly. Yes there is a difference. Hillbillies are the backass stupid racists. Rednecks are southern folk, owners of trucks and plows, they are the ones that prefer camping to partying, accents are thick but they are smart. Farmers know very well about how science is intertwined with their livelihood and they own lots of land and equipment (one piece of which can cost over a quarter of a million dollars) We say y'all and fixin to but we aren't stupid. We wear boots, Stetsons, and guns on our belts but you can be sure we hold doors open for anyone and we say hello to strangers.

Common sense is VERY important (and we as rednecks know how to do so much more than city slickers when it comes to life and nature) but no one I know is trying to say that we shouldn't listen to doctors or scientists when it comes to in general things. A few are anti vaxxers but really we call them hippies not rednecks.

Education. Um just gunna say that my sister is getting her degree (currently a senior) at Texas A&M (Agriculture & Mechanics) in Geoscience. She is looking to protect the environment and shit ya know. She is contemplating going to law school instead to become an environmental lawyer. Both of my parents went to college on their GI bill because they were soldiers defending this fuckin country. My dad was the biggest redneck you could have met.

Pride- fuck you everyone in America does that! Rednecks are farmers and feed the fuckin country I find that pretty damn important. Talk to someone in New York city and they will refer to America as 'we' just like anyone else in everyday America.

Honestly we make fun of Alabama and Arkansas as the marrying your cousins type and Mississippi is the one that has the rep for poor education. Texas has good education and great charm. Our biggest flaw is the conservative side but that isn't anything special to Texas. Our financial situation here is also pretty good. Most statistics put us in the top ten or top five.

Not everything because some of it doesn't apply to hillbillies but yes I agree. I just wanted it cleared of rednecks, plus it is kinda like I can talk shit about my brother and you can't. Rednecks are the good twin and hillbillies are the evil. As a redneck I can call my racist cousins hillbillies because I know them. Once upon a time, there were no vegetarians in the infantry (too embarrassing)...but there were boxes and boxes of vegetarian mres.  Those were the good ones. The "meat" in an mre is invariably a reconstituted, fortified, cured meat product.  Good for the UO sniffing dogs, not much else.  I'd rather eat the packaging than the meat slice.

The notion is that a good nco/co issues sound orders that his subs can understand -as- such. There's a term for it (named after a drill from back in the day and another country....can't remember it for the life of me today).

However, on point, if my co or lt told me to do something that exceeded the scope of roe (or my conscience...mind you...I'm flexible, lol).....I'd ignore the order or find a way to accomplish it that fit and not bring it up with them again. People say wild ass shit when they're all jacked up. My top once told me to shoot the next man who turned off the lights in his brad and he meant it. I never did end up shooting anyone on account of it. I'd be a liar if the thought didn't cross my mind, but, meh. I got creative more than once with suppressing fire orders too. Always room to wiggle.

I actually got into more trouble for slavishly following orders to the letter than for improvisation. I once fired the 20mike into a wall when told to "control the crowd". Dismount for a month, docked pay for three. Didn't care. He either meant to menace them, or :wink-wink: mow them down. You're always doing something wrong (you know what I mean) so if they wanna drop the hammer for x...they'll drop it and claim y, lol.

I'm convinced that some of the questionable orders I saw -- it's not like I saw many -- were more a matter of CYA and the chief was counting on GI ingenuity to have it both ways.
