Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Pregnant women, babies, children. He did not choose to "raise them all". Loving? I think not.

Do I have to play the "I asked first" game? You're proposing an argument about love. This is your topic. It's not up to me to figure this out for you. Please answer the question.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

Hi Mathilda, while I appreciate your preconceived assumptions of how christians are raised you are wrong in this case. I didn't grow up believing in God or in a church. Human brain and the nature of humans are fascinating and I love studying it so I think you're great already. God is defined in many dictionaries as "the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being." so I guess we can define it. Science is simply the explanation of how God works. The big bang is how God spoke the universe into existence. The content of the post is truth and if you choose not to accept that, that is fine. I'm on an atheist forum site. I know nobody here believes in God and I'm not expecting you to. There is a God and ignoring him isn't going to make him go away. How can you disprove his existence if you never looked for him? Nothing is impossible in the science world so why is this? Nobody dedicates their lives to the tooth fairy or santa. He gave them all many chances to turn their lives around but the humans and earth were much more currupt than it is today. Thats hard to believe considering how currupt everything is today. There was only one family left who loved God so he gave humanity another chance through them. This also allowed you to exist. Noah also warned the people of the flood and nobody believed him. So I mean..... God gave them chances bruh. God gave them plenty of chances and choices on how they wanted things to go down but he wouldn't let the creation which he loved so dearly to just become evil and corrupt. The same God that provides mercy, love, chances, and choices is also one of great power. He is slow to anger but he can still be angered. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. the words love and God are interchangeable in many cases with the bible
Lighthouse, you have to keep in mind that you're not the first one to come here asking questions for some school project.
What all these questions have in common is to be simplistic while using many words. First, you already establish there is a god by claiming god is love. Not just any god, but your god, as scripted in the bible. That's not the way to go with atheism or agnosticism. The first question to be asked would be, is there any god and can it possibly be the one from scripture? Only if this is answered with yes, you can discuss the nature of this very specific god. I do realize, you attending some christian school, have answered that with yes already. We haven't. In our majority we would answer with no. So there's no point in taking it from there, since the premisse already is a wrong one. (October 4, 2016 at 7:15 am)lighthouse Wrote:It is never, ever good to drown your children for disobedience. No one has ever dedicated their lives to Santa Claus ? Countless children have and will. They will write him letters, tell their secret desires while sitting on some old guys lap at the mall, hope inside Santa knows they are good boys and girls, then thank him on Christmas morning. They will grow up to be parents who tell their own children the Santa tale and take their own kids to the mall to sit on his lap.
The only reasons religious people put more faith in god are because of the vast weight of ancient texts and their assumed authenticity, emotional appeals, peer pressure etc. Otherwise god is just like old St. Nick.

*sigh* No answer to my question. Lighthouse, you aren't going to get anywhere with me until you can answer that one. I really don't know what you mean by love. The way you are describing it makes me think you're working off a different idea of love than I am. I could tell you what I thought of love, but that would be a pointless waste of time. If you disagree with my definition, you'll just be able to deny mine and argue for your own idea of it. Let's skip that step and go off of what you think. If your idea of love fits better with your description of your god, then we have something more solid to work with.
I don't believe you. Get over it.
