But atheists do stupid things, too.
Is there a reason for it?
Or atheists do stupid things without a reason?
Show me 50 atheists, and I'll show you 50 different reasons why they do stupid things. But it will never be because they worship a god who told them to do it.
Sorry, but people who believe they are guided by an infallible deity don't have tu quoque as an option when they fuck up.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

Certainly, in the grand scheme of humanity, all humans generally do stupid things.
Religion, however, propagates this irrational idea whereby theists are allowed to be stupid because they have a belief in something that is not real.

o.k. but then these 50 atheists after they fuck up, turn to religion. Like Lighthouse. Some do, but I did just the opposite. I saw that religion was fuckin up and turned to atheism. Seen more religious fuck ups than atheist. Most likely because atheists don't follow a book that tells them to fuck up.

When I make an unutterably stupid mistake, I have no need to turn to religion. I have a wife who is perfectly happy to point out my errors in judgement.

Exactly. People do what God tells them to do, as long as they were going to do it anyway. I don't know how it could be any other way, since they are just talking to themselves. I guess sometimes they are talking to people from their past instead, who have drummed into them what God would say.
I can see how people who can't handle how brutal and unfair life can be need a way to justify it all. Religion offers "answers", although they are made up and don't even make sense. They actually end up making things even worse, if you stop to properly analyse them. People don't, I imagine, because they just want the pill.
Personally, I accept that such notions as "unfair" are just human value judgements. Reality is what it is. I have no need to make up stories to accept that.
