Everytime Rik goes a 12 hour span without popping in to tell someone they just don't get it, I start to worry that karma may have gotten him. He's sort of a fixture of consistency for me...it's nice to have those in life. LIke the doorknob at your parents house. It;s the same doorknob, it;s always been the same doorknob. If I went down there today...it would be there...next yuear, still gonna be the same doorknob. It;s comforting, I guess, and in a sense gives you at least one thing you're always going to be right about. No matter when you pop in, the doorknob is going to be the same doorknob you remember from last time.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Some atheists have faith that nobody create and run the universe.
I also have faith that God exist and run the universe.
Religious people have faith in their dogmas and so on.

You're equivocating different connotations of faith, and it does your "point" no good.  Are you really saying that your faith in your god is no stronger than the belief of a student that he'll do well in an exam?

If that's the case, I'd say firstly that you should look at the different meanings attached to "faith", and after that, perhaps you should look at the depth of the faith you claim to hold ... because let's face it, we've all known (or been, for that matter) students who have faith in being able to pass a test, only to learn upon grading that that faith was misplaced.

(Bold mine)

You're equivocating and deduce that I think that all type of faith must be good and that faith will lead to grasp the object of our desires.

A thief has faith that he will succeed in stealing or a killer in killing.

I never said that all faith is good.
You deduce that so you are wrong.
All I said is that everybody have faith in something and that's it.  Lightbulb

Apologize for knocking down your new belief?  Bump

Stoicism in this instance?  Bird

Yes, I am very very sorry for putting you down once again.  I'm Sorry

(yellow-cards Little Rik for a tu quoque fallacy)

Might I also suggest that you work on your reading comprehension? I don't see any explicit reference to "good" in the material you quoted from Thumpalumpacus, and in any case it is irrelevant. Some people have faith that "karma" will cause terrible things to happen to someone they dislike, which in many cases may not be a good thing at all.

The actual equivocation is this:

Religious faith: Belief that is generally (but not always) grounded in imagination, wishful thinking, or scriptural "promises" of an unproven deity, in the absence of evidence.

versus

Confidence: Belief that is grounded in personal experience, such as demonstrated ability to perform well on previous tests, or recurring phenomena such as the cycle of day and night, winter to spring.

It's misleading to call them both "faith," which is why I personally prefer the word "confidence." I have no faith whatsoever in your god, but plenty of confidence that I can get to work on time or bake a batch of brownies or use a power saw.

That is not an apology, and you will not get a second chance.  Ever.

Confidence without faith is nothing but you can always try to separate one another.  Rolleyes
My advise is that it will be very difficult.  Think

Is a bit like trying to separate potatoes and spinach from inside a boiling pot.  Panic

Good luck with that Astr.  Smile

No, I'm not. I'd suggest you go find a decent dictionary of philosophy, or at least a good listing of logical fallacies such as Nizkor, and look up "equivocation" before we continue the discussion. Matter of fact, I'm really going to insist upon it, because of the many different sorts of unintelligent people that irk me, the willfully ignorant irk me most.

Now go look it up and see how you misused the term in the sentence above. I'll wait.

... aaaaaand, you're doing it again.

While you're at Nizkor, make sure you look up "strawman" too. The only thing that I've deduced so far is that you're not very bright, but have a lot of emotional energy invested in appearing so ("didn't think of that" really gives the last part away).

And the only thing I said is that you're equivocating different connotations of the word "faith". I'm pretty sure English is not your first language, so I can accept that you may not understand what I just wrote, but to put it simply, in English, a word can have more than one meaning, or multiple shadings of meanings.

I'm not going to carry this discussion any further until you look up and understand equivocation and strawman, so go on and get that out of the way, eh, kid?

No, it was a very easy decision.  Thank you, by the way, for being a wonderful role model -- of something I never want to be.
