And that's only what we can observe (irrespective of the ability of a telescope to resolve a target). The thing that restricts our ability to observe is the speed of light. Any object further away than the distance light can travel to us will not be seen until the future. That distance seems to be the calculated 14+/-billion years the universe is thought to exist.

The universe could and probably is larger than we now calculate. As I understand it the universe is or may be infinitely large; our ability to "see" it only limited by the speed of light.
