In the first evidence of a natural intervention triggering stem cell-based regeneration of an organ or system, a study in the June 5 issue of the Cell Stem Cell shows that cycles of prolonged fasting not only protect against immune system damage — a major side effect of chemotherapy — but also induce immune system regeneration, shifting stem cells from a dormant state to a state of self-renewal.

And mark my words they'll develop a drug to do it for you...for a small fee of course.

Conclusions from http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org:

"Fasting might help, maybe.

People who can tolerate periods of hunger might find intermittent fasting helpful for weight loss; it is simpler to not eat than to try to decide what to eat.

Although some of the evidence for intermittent fasting sounds promising, we don’t yet know whether it will prolong life or improve health.

It may be OK to skip breakfast.

We don’t yet know what the optimum meal frequency and timing are in health or in disease.

More research is needed, particularly well-designed human trials comparing various fasting regimens to the traditional three meals a day."

Ark, the point is we are not at "that place" yet from a research standpoint to be making official recommendations. We also don't know what possible long term negative effects fasting may have on human health. This is why it's not okay for nutrition vigilantes like yourself to be reading one or two research articles on a subject and then run around telling people what they should do for their health. For the love of God, at least promise me you don't make recommendations to cancer patients...

I have also fasted quite a number of times from 3-7 days at a time so I do speak from personal experience. Not that it count's for anything in your accounting but I haven't just "read one or two article on the subject". It's also a part of many spiritual traditions. Not that it counts for anything in your accounting.

I know exactly what I would do dietarily If I was diagnosed with cancer. And I would at least try that first before being pump up with poisons and shot through with radiation to the destruction of my immune system, and risking secondary harder to treat cancers. http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/cid/doc...43-pdf.pdf

Get down with your bad self, man. Just don't tell anyone else what to do. I hope you NEVER get the opportunity to be your own test subject on that particular ailment, however.
