I didn't say I supported the monarchy.

People enjoy a good straw man.

However I agree with you. I'm a republican through and through and would like to see an elected head of state, but with opinion polls consistently showing overwhelming support for the monarchy, they won't be gone in mine or your lifetimes.

The issue just doesn't really bother me.

Thank you everybody for your responses!  I was just curious about what people thought.  No better place to ask than here!

I don't see "atheism" being a threat to the monarchy because, regardless of the technicality of CofE being the state religion of the UK, at a general societal level The UK largely behaves as a secular society. British people as a whole are highly irreligious even if most don't claim outright atheism, religion plays a very minimal role in everyday life for the vast majority, Christianity isn't really being forced on anyone at this point.

I think most Brits just see the Royals as more of a wealthy celebrity family now, rather than taking it very seriously.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

I despise monarchism as a concept, all cultures. I don't hold any special or specific animosity towards the UK's current tart in a tiara.

Well, the queen is technically my boss, but she really has little to do with my employment and impending redundancy, other than giving me her birthday off as a holiday. I don't really feel strongly either way tbh, while she does retain historical powers, the reality is that these are used very infrequently, except to 'rubber stamp' the activities of parliament. I'd happily break the link between the monarchy and religion, and the monarchy and government if a sensible alternative was put forward, but don't really see that the current arrangements work badly enough for a wider call for change.

I would be utterly embarresd if I was born into the royal family and I'd want to know how you would go about resigning. I find them about as silly as a group of cartoon characters walking around.

Do they have a load of royal spunk on hold somewhere in case they all get killed at once?

This is no BS, we parked 3 cars away from Kate Middleton at Tescos in Holyhead Anglesey. She's not that pretty in RL.
