When I got my ballot this time around, you know how many third party candidates there were other than Johnson and Stein for President?

None. Not a single one in a state or local race. And now the third parties are going to take their three year vacation from the face of the earth until they self-righteously return to siphon off votes from whomever it is that's running against Herr Drumpf.

A vote for President is also a vote for the makeup of the Supreme Court, which can mean a vote that lasts for decades. So it doesn't matter if you don't like the candidate, you can look at their basic ideals and see how law of the land lawmaking is going to go because of their time in office. Now Trump is going to pick at least one, and maybe as many as three SCOTUS justices. And look who he's surrounded himself with.

That's what third party voting helped accomplish this election.

Oh, yeah, it's totally the fault of the people that didn't like either candidate.  These people and their thinking that they shouldn't be forced election after election to choose between a douche and a turd sandwich.  They should just shut up and pick an asshole.  It's the American way, after all.

It had nothing to do with Hillary being a lying corporate shill.  It had nothing to do with her being an establishment politician in the pocket of Wall St.  It had nothing to do with her inability to connect to rural voters.  It had nothing to do with Hillary giving Wasserman-Schulz a job after she got caught trying to rig the primary.  It had nothing to do with her poor handling of classified information.

You can go ahead and keep blaming third party voters.  But you may as well just extend Trump's lease on the White House for four more years.

I don't blame you completely, just in part. And you can deny it all you want, just like Nader supporters still live in denial over aiding George W. Bush in getting elected in 2000. But it's okay, there are hundreds of thousands of dead people to remind them.

There was an obvious choice to be made here and you helped Trump get elected. Suck it up and accept that you threw your vote away on someone who had absolutely zero chance to win jackshit. Hell, jackshit is infinitely more than any Johnson or Stein won, or had a chance to win.

Most people don't always like either candidate, but they understand that often there is a lesser of two evils, and so they vote for the lesser and hope for the best. Neither Stein, nor Johnson ever stood a chance of appointing a SCOTUS justice, but Hillary did. Talk all your "corporate shill" bullshit until the cows come home, but now Trump is putting at least one, probably two, maybe even three justices on the Supreme Court.

But hey, at least you voted your conscience.

You know... if more people voted their conscience, that might provide the onus for candidates to be presented on some basis -other- than th lesser of two evils.  You keep swirling the toilet bowl with them....well, there's no sense in complaining when you end up in the septic tank. After all...you told them it was okay...you kept legitimizing it with your vote. That;s probably not all your fault either, I'm willing to bet it started before you started voting.

Still, you're complicit and/or complacent.

But you're assuming that people who voted 3rd party would otherwise have voted for Hillary. There are many Republicans who voted 3rd party this time around as well.

Congratulations, you're the reason our options suck every year. Not only are you an accomplice in this rigged system, you've even convinced yourself that being complicit is the right thing to do.

Did it completely escape your notice that we had an unprecedented amount of Republicans speaking out against their candidate and refusing to vote for him? And still Hillary couldn't beat him. Think about that one for a while.

A while back, a facebook friend was claiming that criticisms of Obama are racism.  Meaning you can't disagree with Obamacare, with tax policy, with drone strikes, none of that, or you're racist.

I don't think it's that they're really offended by being called bigots or racist anymore; I think that, when the left calls people racist, it's kinda starting to be ignored.  The boy cried wolf one too many times and now nobody believes him, despite the fact that there are several very real wolves there that need to be dealt with.

So what, we just stay silent and ignore the racial aspect of the election?

Nope.  Not my intent.  Especially not in this election, where it seemed like every word spewed out of that orange mouth of Trumps was aimed directly at a racial or ethnic minority.  Race played a big role here.

But, understand that claims of racism aren't going to work if you throw them out all the time.  Sometimes, it's racism.  Other times, calling something racism is a bit of a stretch.  I mean, if, as I've seen done, you say 'all white people are racist,' you're saying that Donald Trump has no choice but to be racist.  It kinda takes the oomph out of the term 'racist,' and that's a shame because racist should be a very ugly word.  Or if you call it racism when someone criticizes Obama's tax policy or Obamacare or his drone strikes or his foreign policy, people will take your claims of what is and what isn't racism.  When someone doesn't like Obama, but they were big supporters of Herman Cain or Ben Carson, I don't think you can really chalk their feelings to racism.  Recognize when you're reaching a bit far to make claims of racism and stop reaching; otherwise, the result is that people don't pay attention to you when legitimate racism happens.

And I feel like that's what has been happening.  The term "racism" is thrown around so casually in many progressive circles that it's lost all meaning.  It's almost like the term "fascist."  You want the term to have a specific meaning, if you want it to hurt someone, don't use it so much.  Save the claims of racism for when real racism happens.

Yep. I know plenty of people who voted for McCain and Romney, but then went for 3rd party this time around. The usual Dems and Repubs who voted 3rd party probably cancel each other out, actually. I wouldn't be surprised if it was about 50/50 from each side.

Hillary lost because many life long Dems voted for Trump instead of her. Not because more people voted 3rd party.

So, true; if half the Greens had decided not to throw their votes away, Bill and Hillary would be selecting their furniture for the White House right about now.

Ironically, these are the same white, blue collar workers from states who hadn't voted for a Republican president since the 1980s. I won't call losing the popular vote by over 1 million+ "winning".  He basically won on a technicality which he, himself, condemned a few days prior to the election.

Actually, 6 million fewer Democrats voted in 2016 than did in 2012.  As all the polls showed Hillary cruising to an easy victory, she turned her attention away from Trump (didn't even mention his name during her 2-minute ad the very night before the election) and a lot of poor people decided, "Hey, she's going to win anyway; I have better things to do..."  Couple this with the fact that many people who were simply too ashamed to admit to a pollster (and/or, their own spouse) that they were going to vote for Trump, and so, the polls were raked-full of bias and inaccuracies.

Slow down there purveyor of fictitious facts.

Do you realize that your golden monkey barely beat ole Mitt Romney's 2012 totals?

2012 Mitt Romney - 60,933,504
2016 Drumph - 60,961,185

What happened was that Hillary scored about 4 million less votes than Barack.  This fantasy you have about all these people coming to your side doesn't quite add up.  Yeah he won some states Pubes normally don't, but it's more likely from voter apathy for Hillary than the whole legion of converts you think you scored.
