Youre either a troll or an idiot.
The definition of atheism is in context to humans, not cabbages. That's kind of how language works
Your argument is akin to me saying that its pointless to say you don't drive a car because, well, a bowl of jello doesnt drive a car either.
Stop using semantics to try and prove some silly point.
You are conflating the literal definition of atheism with the ideas that happen to be held by many atheists.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

To be an atheist "simply" means not having a belief in god.

A cabbage is an atheist.
So if you define atheism as simply the lack of belief in god the your definition is trivial.
Bravo. You have just made the stupidest argument for religion that I have ever seen in my entire life. And I've seen some doozies. Question- which brand of xtianity are you throwing off for Catholicism?

This shit again? How long has Chad been on the forum? This is some of the most dishonest bollocks I've ever seen. I've explained all this before. Chad is so desparate to insult atheists that he has to alter the definitions to have something to swipe at.
An atheist is a person who lacks belief in God, or believes there is no God.
You can't simply ignore part of the definition because it's convenient. Well you can, but all your points are all invalid.
Chad either removes part of the definition so he can equate us with vegetables, or he adds a load of stuff that isn't there so he has something to swing at.
He's not so stupid that he can't understand a simple definition. So he must just be so enraged with atheists that he has to lie about it, and hope we don't notice. Our very existence must be a thorn in his side.
Or can I do it too? A Christian is a cabbage that believes in magic zombie Jews. Haha! Christians are cabbages!

What is this insistence with people having to pick a side? If I make a claim to you, you may simply not have an opinion on whether it's true or false. I don't know why I'd force you to guess, when you feel you don't have enough evidence to say either way.
Not having a belief either way is being a weak atheist. Job done.

I wonder if we can ever get Chad to admit he is wrong about this. Unfortunately for him, he'll have to start insulting philosophical naturalists instead of atheists when he goes on about his magic and stuff that he knows about and we don't. That's not quite as catchy is it. And would be aimed at a minority of atheists in general.
This calls for a poll actually! Not about Chad...

I sure hope you're being humorously snarky. If not, it would basically qualify all non-conscious entities for being atheists, which would mean there are more of us than there are of you...and we can't all be wrong, can we?

I'm being hyperbolic but only in the service of highlighting what I believe is somewhat silly cliche - defining atheism as simply a lack of belief. Of course anyone can see that the underlying assumption is that it applies to people (and not cabbages) and, yes, it is a total nit-pick.
At the same time, outside the small circle of atheists I don't think there is much sympathy for that self-definition, because it is a very trivial way to define an intellectual position about which self-described atheists are not indifferent. They care. Otherwise they wouldn't be posting and debating on AF. They care. Otherwise there wouldn't be clubs and magazines about atheism. What I mean to say is that many, if not most, AF members have rather strong feelings about whether god(s) exist. Even the so-called agnostic atheists are not indifferent on the issue. No one can deny that nearly every self-described atheist harbors a modicum of incredulity to the proposition that god(s) exist. From the outside, and not just among particularly obnoxious theists like myself, that incredulity is a defining feature of atheism. I really find it hard to believe that you guys don't embrace the obvious.
To say an atheist is someone who lacks belief in god(s) puts it on the same level as lack of belief about pretty much anything for any reason. Saying someone is an atheist, thus defined, falls in the same category as the benign ignorance of a child who never heard of the Alepo Codex and therefore doesn't believe in it's existence. It trivializes the concept of atheism. That is why I think the currently popular definition of atheism is a kind of dodge, probably and inadvertent one in most cases.
