Honor between soldiers/fighters?

This. People don't kill easy. Not if they're sane. That's why "seasoned troops" are more than a match for equal numbers of green troops.

I believe that when someone joins the army/fight for a cause they are ready to kill, and die.

What do you think? I believe most will agree.

I remember a line from Starship Troopers: If I thought I wasn't capable of killing the enemy I would notify my superior officers immediately.

And I remember a line from 'Patton': 'No poor, dumb bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. You win wars by making some other poor, dumb bastard die for HIS country. '

I can assure you that when I enlisted in 1986 at the age of nineteen I was quite unprepared to do either, regardless of what I may have thought regarding the matter.

I believe that there have been groups throughout history who have never shown remorse by killing the enemy. And even now.

Everything depends on how strong you believe in what you are fighting for. If you are 100% certain you are doing the right thing, it is unlikely you will feel remorse. You may even enjoy it.

The Samurais for example. Maybe Spartans.

Nowdays I would say terrorists. Brainwash someone enough to the point they believe killing innocent people is okay.

I wonder how much full disclosure the military is required to do regarding the prevalence and severity of PTSD in their sales pitches.

Like the soldiers dashing little ones against the stones?

Gotta admire that kind of commitment/motivation !!

That Abrahamic God sure knows how to fight a war, don't He ?

There is no honor in being in the military. This is American propaganda at it's finest.

Join the Army! Fight for your country! You'll be a hero! You'll be Army Strong! Go kill for your country! Defend your people! Fuck the other people! Live with honor! Integrity! Respect! Do what you're told! Be a good soldier!

The military is a necessary evil and part of me is thankful we have the strong defense force that we do. But let's not pretend like it is anything more than that.

The people who buy into the idea of honor in being a soldier is exactly the type of people Uncle Sam wants.

edit: With that being said I think it is absolutely terrible that there are young men and women who go over to the Middle East and come home with legs and arms blown off, or come home mentally scarred and traumatized from the things they've seen and done. It's very sad. And of course there are people who do not get to come home at all. I think it is all very terrible and I feel horrible for the families that have to go through this.

However to claim there is honor in something like war is very bizarre to me. War is, unfortunately, necessary. But it is nothing to feel proud of. The propaganda pushed by the American military is so effective that some people are berated for even thinking of criticizing the military and/or its actions. You're seen as "Unamerican" for even considering that there is no honor in being a solider of for thinking that the war in the Middle East was a mistake. Its honestly sad but I refuse to placate the Amurrican idiots for the sake of not rocking the boat.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Soviet army crossing Germany partway (both ways) in WWII had an impressive technique for punishing all the German women the could get their hands on too.

Japan in China and other places too . . .
