Have you seen FEMA's projections on the west coast?  They flat out say that people west of a line are unreachable, unsavable.  It;s been written off for the worst case scenario.  Far more important is to stop the damage at that line, and to assist those to the east thereof.

It;s too bad, really, because the area is/was so idyllic at initial colonization...but ofc we never stopped to ask ourselves -why- such a pristine place existed. Why the natives hadn't properly exploited it. Turns out, it's a regular meatgrinder.

Whatever happened with that anyway? Wasn't it found to be effectively a scam with people spending thousands for nothing back? All I can find is that it paid out to people as compensation (I guess) and then, well, nothing?

That's what they said about Brexit, but "project fear" turned out to be "project underestimation" of the horror unleashed by the stupid decision.
Sure the economy hasn't plunged quite as far into the red as predicted but in many other ways the effects were hugely underestimated. I guess at the end of the day the issue was too complex to encapsulate in an in out question and we are eternally screwed.
