Don't call yourself anything. Labels oversimplify things. We all constantly feel a need to label ourselves. You don't need it. Just think what you think on different issues.


"Small government" and "big government" are a myth and we should stop using those terms. People who claim to be "small government" because they don't like welfare but they think the government should regulate what we do with our own bodies are certainly not "small government." In fact, conservative policies on social issues are the most invasive government policies I can think of.

I'm small government when it comes to most things. But the right to life and giving ppl basic needs for living take priority.

Right, but I don't see the point in the term. It wrongly implies certain things. The term really came about during Reagan's administration, and Reagan's "small government" is the opposite of yours (he really hated that "Welfare Queen"). So I'm not sure what you even mean by this statement.

I call my political beliefs "pragmatic libertarianism". Pretty much the goal should be to maximize liberty, but never at the expense of someone else's rights, especially the right to life. However I also think that if a piece of legislation works well, you should strengthen it or at the very least leave it alone.

To be truly pro-life one has to respect the actual life of the woman over the potential life of the foetus. You are not pro-life, you are anti-abortion, and all because you'd rather listen to a misogynistic, celibate old man than to the evidence.

I'm not sure what you mean, Taz. The vast majority of abortions are not done because the mom's life is in danger. And when it is, there are ethical ways of saving the mom and possibly the baby too, that don't involve abortion.

I'm fine with abortion if the mother's life is in danger. If you're in a situation where either both the mother and baby die, or one of them dies, choose the scenario which leads to the lesser loss of life, and prioritize the life of the woman above the baby.

Fortunately, danger to mom's life usually happens later on in pregnancy. By that time, the baby has a chance of survival outside the womb. Induce labor or do a C-section to eliminate the threat to the mom, while still trying to save the baby. The baby may die in the process, but it's a much more ethical option than poisoning the baby or cutting him/her up while still alive inside the womb.

I can't be bothered going into full detail on everything because the post would take ages to type but feel free to ask me questions if you want. I would be "left-wing" on things like LGBT rights (for obvious reasons), free healthcare, welfare, and free education (for citizens and permanent residents only - foreign students should have to pay) and the legalisation of soft drugs such as cannabis.

I think our stance on Immigration should be strict but we obviously need to allow a certain number of foreign workers in. Asylum seekers should be properly vetted and it should be explained to them that they may have to return at some point once whatever is happening in their homeland settles down. If they wish to stay permanently or at least for the time being once their time is up, get in line and apply for permanent residence status like everyone else.

Because you conflate your insistence on imposing a blanket ban on all abortions as being pro-life. Remember you toe the rcc line of no abortions in any situation, not I.

Oh, and if we're going down the "vast majority" route, the vast majority of foetal implantations (i.e. when the fertilised foetus gets implanted in the womb) end in termination before viability naturally. And the vast majority of women who'd have a legal abortion under the current climate would have an illegal and highly dangerous abortion under the climate you wish to impose on us all (which gives lie to the idea of banning abortions isn't going to impact women's health).

Until you stop mendaciously conflating anti-abortion with pro-life I'm going to bring this point up every time. I'm more pro-life than you are.

I have no idea what I'd call myself. I don't think anyone falls 100% with a certain ideology, everybody cherry picks different belief systems into their own mix. And that's only natural. People are much too complex to put them in boxes. They never fit perfectly and it's a bitch to unfold them afterwards
