Who made up the idea of participation trophies for us millenials?
Gen Xers and Boomers.
Who drilled us on etiquette of not fucking asking people questions that may cause them to feel terrible (like asking your aged Grandpa if he killed anyone in the war or a sexual assault victim what's it like to be sexually assaulted)?
Gen Xers and Boomers.
Millenials are parented mostly by Boomers and Gen Xers.
If y'all truly have some hatred towards those two common millennial blame points, fuck off and look in a mirror. Chances are you're part of the demographic that invented or drilled that shit into our heads.

These trigger warnings can sometimes be too much, but they don't mean that anyone was actually triggered by them. This is that same pool logic of finding an extreme example of something and defining an entire generation by it.
Trigger warnings can be useful. Say, "This discussion/lecture will include discussions of rape/sexual assault." Might help a rape victim prepare for or avoid the discussion. That is what they are for.
I mean when you hear something you don't like you get up and move....right? You don't freeze up, fall on the ground and start foaming up in the mouth that's ridiculous..besides, no discussion or lecture is going to be randomly talking about rape for 40 minutes, they'll include the topic of the discussion in the title.there's no need for extra "Trigger warnings" just the thing sounds wimpy and frankly kind of pathetic that grown men and women need these kinds of "warnings" of "Triggers" what's the worst that could happen? You throw a fit and realize how ridiculous you are when everyone laughs at you? Great. Sign me up.
No, I think the worst that could happen is that the topic (let's continue to use rape), however briefly discussed, instantly pulls you, as a rape victim, back into painful memories of what you experienced, and you spend the rest of the class/day/week trying to regain your balance, cope with the memories and convince yourself that you're safe now.
If trigger warnings can prevent just one person from reliving a traumatic experience, I don't see why the rest of us need to make such a big deal of it and belittle those who might benefit from it by calling them things like "pathetic" and "pussies." It's not like a trigger warning will be harmful to anyone, so what's the problem, really?

The thing is, they can and do experience those things ... they just don't have the coping mechanisms to deal with those things, or the many other difficulties life will present.
And yes, you're right, it is a parental failing, not the fault of the milliennials themselves.

Listen, pool. There are people in this world that couldn't give two shits about what you think is wimpy or pathetic. If you don't need trigger warnings, that's fine. Some people would prefer to have them so they can avoid topics that could be painful or trigger post traumatic stress.
Why is it so inconceivable that other people may have different experiences and preferences than you? If you don't need or want trigger warnings, what harm does it do for people who would prefer them? Are you such a man-child that even the presence of something you don't need is offensive and, say, triggering? Do you need a trigger warning for trigger warnings?

Can I just point out that the number of fatherless homes around where you live is ^pretty^ high too? Fathers used to have the job of toughening up the kids after their time cuddling with their mom's . Not blaming anybody here but it might be worth looking into if you want to get to the root of this trigger safe space culture

My father never taught me how to deal with being raped. If I had experienced a rape, I would want to know, if possible, when the topic were going to be discussed so that I wouldn't be surprised.

Well aren't you just charmingly sexist.

Agreed. The kids will have to pay for the sins of the parents. But then, whoever said life was fair?
Certainly not George Carlin.

Trigger warnings have always been around but the problem is overuse. Going too far may be having unintended consequences!
I get a warning in a blog about sexual assault as some else has noted, or violence ratings before movies and tv shows, but a trigger warning to theology students about the crucifiction of christ is indicative of a problem.
So what is the unintended consequence?
I have two sons who are in their early 20's and they are definitely leaning conservative because of the SJW, PC, and overly triggered society we find ourselves in. Liberals are inviting a backlash and driving people away (like we just saw with Trump) with the overuse and misapplication of otherwise correct policy. I think that creating an overly triggered society is one small part of a problem that will invite a hard push to the right. I think we are seeing that in most of western society, not just the USA.
If god was real he wouldn't need middle men to explain his wants or do his bidding.

It is very ironic and slightly amusing that the people most triggered in these situations are the ones that hate trigger warnings and safe spaces so much that they cannot help but let their hatred and ridicule out.
