The sad future of the democratic party

It strikes me that you aren't even sure what 'PC' is. Your only method of showing that it is a problem is to say it's a problem.

The reality is that 'PC' is just the current name for something that has been happening forever. Every generation used to be able to say shit that they feel they should still be able to say without someone saying it's fucked up. We used to call it 'a different time.' As society evolves, there will always be things that are no longer socially acceptable, and there will always be people who think that's wrong.

We just have social media now, so when someone says something that society, as a whole, has deemed no longer acceptable, the backlash can be more numerous. Newsflash: that's not going anywhere. It's always been there, it's always going to be there. It's not a new culture, it's just easier to see it because people post on social networks. Just like in the past, when you are famous or represent an entity like a company or organization, if you speak in public and say something people disagree with, people have their reaction. Now, Twitter exists, and the opportunities for speaking out are more numerous. Until people learn how to navigate this, they will have issues.

It's not hard. I have a Facebook and a Twitter and an Instagram. I have never said anything that could get me fired, nor would I. If I can figure out this dangerous PC world we live in, I think anyone can. Except maybe the Donald.

There's alot of jaw flapping about the problem of pc culture but the only problem with pc that's ever articulated is that there's a problem with pc.  I think you're tilting at a windmill created by racist loons, Crunchy.  There's no need to "inject" any charges of racism..as political correctness...by definition, has to do with avoiding fucking racist shit......that's what it means to be politically correct.

If  I point out the problems, you'll just go on offense again. I can't believe that you cannot think of ANY problems whatsoever with political correctness.

I can't believe that after two pages, you still can't name even one.

In fairness, it's not his fault...he's been incessantly told that "it's a problem" by every bigoted piece of shit with a fronted mouthpiece for decades.  He's one of those uninformed, easily manipulated parts of the electorate.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I get that he's just repeating what he's been told, but I'll happily admit that people take things too far.

I just want to know how this equates to a problem with PC culture rather than a hallmark of human culture in general.

Probably good that they do, considering the actions and comments of the people who built the complaint-factory with pc culture.  Had they erred on the side of caution people may have never realized they were disgusting bigots in the first place, lol.

I don't even think it's a problem with human culture in general, personally.  There's simply no point at which someone can take -not- spouting off racial slurs too far. If somebody wants to make a big show of being not-racist...well, excellent..what;s the problem..unless, of course, they're totally a bigot and leave no doubt as to that simple fact by following it up with a tirade about pc culture...lol.

I'm not sure why you think I'm suffering from any sort of admiration for Trump, I'm simply suggesting that he spoke to something people wanted to hear, whether they lie to pollsters (and themselves) about it or not, lol.  That his message...as terrible as it may be to believe, resonated with those people more stongly than clintons.  It wasn;t as if she didn;t have one, it wasn;t as if ther were no choices to be had, or even a choice not to participate.  A significant portion of americans -wanted- this...they liked what they heard.  He didn't invent american bigotry and xenophobia, he just plugged in....accidentally, intentionally, it hardly matters now.

People need to stop making BS up about the election and why Trump won.  Trump won because he carried all of the Red States, just like the queer Graham or no energy Jeb! would have carried.  In addition he picked up the Rust Belt States that had economic problems.

As the Dem like to whine, Lying Crooked Hillary got more popular votes but they were in the true Blue States.  However, the election isn't decided by the popular vote but by who wins the most electoral college votes in the States.  So actually Hillary's BS was more popular among all of the voters than Trump's BS was.  She just didn't have national support.

Oh....the irony.

I think the irony is that you just went completely PC and are accusing anyone who thinks that PC is a problem of being a closet racist and homophobe. By immediately injecting charges of racism, you could not have proven the problem with PC any better.
Could you kindly tell me exactly what the problem is that I proved?  Because if someone says faggot in a condescending way, they ARE a homophobe, and should be told to shut up and sit down. And the irony is they don't mind flinging perjoratives around, but are unable to accept them when flung back at them.

If someone does not use such derogatory terms, then they won't be running into that problem.....

This post is much better than mine, thank you for this.

I agree.  I I would be happy to let anyone view my FB page because I know to keep politics and religion pretty much hidden in anything resembling public.
This forum is the only "public" place I let loose a little.  And even here I regret it, lol.

Actually, I know exactly what PC is and contrary to your assertion I’ve pointed it out. I’m just surprised that anyone would actually try to defend it!
Political Correctness is the censoring of ideas. Plain and simple. As Voltaire said:
“To find out who rules over you simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize”

As to showing it’s a problem, someone on this board just accused those who disagree with him about PC as being racist homophobes. That bigoteering is exactly the problem.  Religion gets a free pass because of this. Try to argue that religions are not all equally bad in the same way at the same time… you’re a racist and there is no need to hear what a racist says. End of discussion!

You’re right about PC being something that has always existed but you have missed what it actually is. It’s censorship. It has nothing to do with what is socially acceptable. It has everything to do with silencing those with a different opinion.
McCarthyism was conservative political correctness. Perhaps you think that liberals are pure and kind and that when they engage in censorship of ideas it’s for a “good” cause. But you would be wrong in thinking that. To me it sounds like hypocrisy. A whole generation of students is being denied the intellectual challenge of debating conflicting views because PC crowds refuse to allow “bad” speakers on campus. Even Obama stated that PC culture on campus leads to coddled students. And he’s such a conservative.

It seems to me that because conservatives are mostly the ones pointing out the problem (with notable liberal exceptions) there is a knee jerk reaction by those who lean left. To pretend that PC is just good manners instead of what it really is, censorship.  I don’t have that problem so I’m going to oppose censorship no matter whose side is engaging in it.

The problem is that we are discussing political correctness, not homophobia,  and you stated that people (like me) who are opposed to political correctness are hiding their true racist and homophobic selves with a desire to go back to the "good old days."
You said: "That's right, all this being civil nambt pamby bullshit is the problem. We need to go back to the good old days when calling a spade a spade, or a faggot a faggot, was recognized as an opinion that was equally deserving respect as any other."

You explicitly stated that those who disagree with you about PC are really just racists and homophobes, thus proving the problem of the Politically Correct labeling their opponents with derogatory terms.
