Ditto this, the only 'atheist' literature I have is Dawkins The God Delusion, which I was given one xmas because I was an atheist in the first place. I found it a smidge tedious.
I listened to the audiobook version of it from an online library and loved it.

I was raised Catholic but I was born an atheist.

I was already firmly a non believer when I first read Bertrand Russell's "Why I'm not a Christian" many years ago.  I've since read many such books as well as many books that simply discuss science. I've read most of the works of Carl Sagan for example.

I think what these books do is provide the reasoning behind our natural tendency to question claims of the supernatural.
If god was real he wouldn't need middle men to explain his wants or do his bidding.

Became an atheist around the age of 7, read my fiancee's copies of The God Delusion and God is Not Great about the age of 36.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I haven't read any of those famous books either. I don't see any point of reading up reasons to not believe in fairytales, I always thought that should be common knowledge.

My childhood brush with religion were the hindu mythological stories my grandma used to tell me whenever I visited her. Later on I realized there were adults who actually believed those to be facts.

Even when I was in high school, reading Catcher in the Rye and other stuff like that, I had no patience for books. I do have Letter to a Christian Nation, which I found easy reading and matter of fact. But I'm content that I am an atheist just because I don't believe in God. No pressure to read all these experts.
