No problema. Yo tengo mucho espanol y soy el mejor en escribando!

Through my 25 years of living I was too focused on myself. Yep I can say it with full confidence; I rarely help people, I only did extensivly in college, for 1 year, and it was to impress a girl. She wasn't impressed. End of story. After that I got my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis.

In Arabic, this kind of people is called "مصلحجي"; pronounced like "Maslahgee"; in for their own interest only. If somebody didn't watch their back; this type of people can literally overload the person with shit to fetch an interest they need, then just vanish, fetch an interest then leave one with a broken back.

People just expect us to give so much, while receive back so little.
It's not fair.

We deserve to like ourselves, just like a "Maslahgee" like themselves. So take your time; Mamacita.
Never break your bones for somebody not willing to do the same.

Waste your health on a Maslahgee.
You owe yourself that !

RE: Acquaintances that want your work for free
While visiting a neighbors recently remodeled/renovated home, he expressed a concern about a basement room with a very large clear span ceiling and how much stuff was upstairs over it.

This is a big deal, having the ceiling sag (bad) or collapse (worse) isn't a good thing and he wondered how it could be checked without tearing down the dry wall and looking. I told him to get a step ladder, and we set it up in the middle of the area downstairs and I had him watch the gap between the top of the ladder and the ceiling with a framing square, and then his sons and I went upstairs directly over his location and jumped up and down a couple times. Went back downstairs and asked if the gap changed and he said not at all.

There you are, no need to ever worry about it, I wouldn't have worried about a deflection of a 1/4 inch, and there was no deflection at all. Told him he had an adequate reserve of strength in the framing in the ceiling and that was that.

Didn't occur to me at the time, but hiring a structural engineer to come out to his rural farmstead and pretty much do the same test I did would have been quite pricey. I didn't charge anything or even think about it at the time. On the other hand, later on he gave me a 'heads up' on someone with an item for sale and I got a hellish deal on something for my farm. Did I give him a spliff or finders fee ?? No, didn't occur to me.

Just how we do things out here.

What gall. Now that they've gotten so much for free, it's going to be tough to wean them off. I suggest that you read The Art of Selfishness By David Seabury. And charge for your work!

Nope. I fix computers for friends for a price. Friends be friends, business is aside. Sure its a symbolic value like 10 euros. Consider it a donation for my efforts. And most of them pay more than I ask for.

This is close to a Portuguese saying :"If you want to lose a friend, lend him money.

William Ury's The Power of a Positive No may also be of interest too.  It teaches people how to assert their individuality via constructive nos while preserving relationships whenever possible.

I don't mind doing favors for friends as long as quid pro pro is offered, even if I never take them up on it.

My other is the worst, she'll invite me over for dinner, and when I get there I get "Hey, while you're here, my PC is acting up...". Great, because you know I brought all of my diagnostics etc with me. By the way, did you take a screenshot or write down the error? Of course not, despite me asking her to do that for years. Usually it's some shitware that's she's installed.

She's family though, so I do it and don't complain, I just try to educate her and hint that maybe she should give me a heads up that it needs looking at.

I haven't even been a PC tech for more than 20 years so in generally don't have a problem telling people so and that they would be better off seeing a pro.

So far no one's asked me for free help writing software - which is what I do now. On that, I have no problem saying no, and my consulting rate is $150/hr.

Lel, This one time an older guy that has a 19 yo daughter asked me to fix her computer because he didn0t understand fuck all about computers. The issue was simple as bad seated RAM. His daugher was beside me, He was at the door and the computer was not facing the screen. It booted nicely, windows 7 and all that shit, she put in her logon ofc, and then I literaly fell off my chair. She had a startup program streamining her saved video rubbing her pussy in the bed behind me. To this day I can't believe my own eyes. She quicly pulled the plug on the desktop then helped me get up. Then when the pc started up and dad was worried I wasn't doing my job properly, I told him "the computer is fixed, donate 10 euros to LP.org". OFC I am no snitch, but the guy was not pleased by his dear daughter not remembering her windows Password 5 minutes after she introduced it when daddy was looking. Meh, I told her how to disable startup apps with a smirk.

I can tell you how to fix this and get some satisfaction out of it.

The next time your services are requested, write the paper. This time, insert many errors and some inappropriate content.

If your friend complains, make it more fucked up.

Very good point. I have friends/relatives in sales (cars/electronics). I don't buy from them. If something should go wrong, on either side, I don't want that to spoil the relationship. Fortunately, this has not happened with my gun dealer/friend, yet.
