Acquaintances that want your work for free

I don't have this problem. I don't really have friends or acquaintances in the first place. And i have no problem saying no regardless of how bad their needs are or how much they pay me.

I'm still miffed about the time I was on vacation from my IT job, and someone from work called. She was the mother of one of my daughter's friends, which is how she got my home number. I was not impressed. I can't remember exactly what I said on the phone, but I didn't go out of my way to be particularly helpful to her.

Because I hate the idea of someone not getting paid for their work and their knowledge, I try to pay market price if I hire an acquaintance to do some work. A small discount is nice, but I never ask for one.

I have a cousin who's a mechanic, one who's a panel beater, one who's an electrician, my nephew is an apprentice builder, but at the moment I need someone who can write in Spanish, and....damn I'm broke at the moment. :-)
