While I agree alphamale has a tendency to lean toward hateful, I hope you see that not everyone who questions it does so hatefully. It's just a topic for debate in my opinion. People talk about the disadvantages and advantages biological males and females have in sports all the time. It's natural that they'll do the same for trans individuals. Some will do it as a way to demean them, but certainly not all. If there is a demonstrable advantage for m2f trans individuals, then there is something to be adjusted. If there isn't, since I'm certainly not positive there is, then there is no problem. It's worth discussing, though. The same goes the other way, if f2m individuals have a disadvantage competing in a male sport and no advantage in female sports, then fuck it, let them compete with women. It's like competing in your own weight class. You might not like being the little guy, but you are and you have to compete against other little guys.

All of that said, that's as far as my interest goes. I wouldn't invest my own time in solving this issue. I'm about tapped out on give a shit in this department as of this post.

I think pretending like there's no difference in the name of equality is noble, but in these conversations it's not helpful.

I do think there is an inherent advantage in a 'late' transitioning adult trans person. (Whatever 'late' means.)

The problem is that the defining line is blurry. We cannot have a subjective decision being made with people's lives, because it definitely leads to corruption and unfairness.

There are a lot of restrictions that we place on athletes, and one of them might have to be that if you begin hormonal transition after the age of X, you cannot compete in international competition. I am no longer eligible to play in the NCAA because I exhausted my 5 years of eligibility. I know it's not the same, but it is a rule instated by a private commission.

Maybe what people should be concentrating on, especially if one does care about the human element within sports, is the sex abuse scandal that  recently broke regarding women's Olympic gymnastics.

Interesting issue. The article reminded me of a NGC (National Geographic Channel) program I saw, "Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric." There are some people born (do not know how rare or common it may be) as genetically intersex human beings. In the old days (1950s into the 80s) babies born with "underdeveloped" genitals were surgically assigned as either male or female. Most of these kids, growing up, identified with the gender they were most comfortable with. So some who were assigned being female preferred to be male and vice versa. That fact, along with the fact that in many other animal species, such as fish, for example, can change their genders naturally blows the fundamentalist argument of gays and transgenders not being born that way or "not part of God's natural order of things" out of the water sky high. But we all know that asshat Christians are not interested in facts, just in what they can get away with imposing on the rest of society.
