How Do You Percieve Age?
#21
RE: How Do You Percieve Age?
I eat their souls. Young souls taste like good jelly beans. Old souls taste like the black jelly beans.

I have friends of different ages. I don't really perceive their ages though. They're just the hombres whose stones I'm busting. We've all aged over the years but it's gradual, particularly for people we see often.

If I see someone less frequently the changes are more noticeable.

It's mostly by how they look physically, and I'm pretty good at guessing a general age (early 20s, late 30s etc)

Things like clothes can help, but with voices not so much. I can tell an "old", "young" or "child" voice when I hear it but not really more specific than that.

I can usually judge a person's age within a few years. That said, I saw a surgeon last year who looked young enough to be my grand daughter (if I had one).

We all need someone between us and the cliff's edge.  I was born exactly one month after Truman's term ended and Eisenhower's began.  So that makes you my elder.  (Much respect.)  Now don't go any where!

My wife on the other hand came into the world during the reign of Franklin Roosevelt, poor bastard.

Hah! I don't need no stinking respect, just for being old! Angel  Also, I get teased for being the youngest person in the wood carving club/class. Almost everyone else there could be my parent's friends!

Shaving can take years off someone.

I look about 16 without my scruff and I hate it. On the positive side, maybe I'll look 22 if I reach 40.

RE: How Do You Percieve Age?
one of the larger discrepancies I've noticed in regards to the topic was Brian.

He had a maturity and wisdom beyond his years the final months of his life. He's almost unique in my experiences with men in being one I was attracted to who was chronologically younger than me. When he passed he was 25, and I was 31. At that tender age, I was unaware of just how attracted I was to maturity and masculinity, traits Brian had in abundance, and even increased as he physically deteriorated.

My perception of him at the time was clouded by his 'odometer' reading which I thought was pretty important but wasn't compared to how he came across. He remains 25 in my thoughts, my feelings for him never waned, and now I'm almost 60, the incongruity is not wasted on me. Same with Dave. He was 10 years older than me when he died, and now I'm almost 25 years older than he lived to be.

It's all part of the crap about getting old that I fucking do not like . . .

That's pretty cool; I hope you appreciate what you've got.  In addition, I hope you continue to age very well.  With that said, may you have better luck than me: I also used to look young for my age, but lately, I've noticed from my own observations and via the observations of others that my days of looking "young for my age" are pretty much gone .
