If they would keep their beliefs to themselves I'd have no reason to be critical.
Unfortunately they don't have that ability. That's not part of their overall plan.

That's largely how Trump happens.
"how Trump happens." You do like to start tropes. People are still over there in that other thread talking about practicing their aim when they miss god. A linguistic trend setter you are.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

and I have a different issue with most of them in that despite they are claiming sincerely held beliefs, their sincerity rarely cannot withstand even the lightest, barest fluffy bunniest degree of scrutiny.

I think criticizing the beliefs of religious people is exactly the same as religious people criticizing atheists or members of other religions.
Thinking is one thing, but being openly critical is quite another. I am all about live and let live. And yes, I know religious people don't live and let live, and I think that sucks balls. That doesn't mean I think it's ok for atheists to do it. Everyone thinks they have The Answer and The Truth.

I don't criticize them for believing what they've been trained to believe, I'd just like to challenge them to salvage more room for critical thought by recognizing that neither they nor anyone else have conclusive grounds for belief in what cannot be demonstrated. It would also be nice if they'd use that capacity to reflect on the wisdom of fostering a secular society where everyone is free to believe what they like in such matters, but no one is imposed upon to live in the manner laid down in any of the holy books.

How can anyone, this side of Galileo, sincerely believe Joshua made the day last longer by praying for the sun to stand still?
