I doubt that as well. But im much more skeptical that 25% think the sun revolves around the earth.

What? That cannot be true.

As horrifying as it is . As much as I would like to reject it. As many times as I have tried to find a serious flaw in the data  . I have not . For all intense and purpose the study is sound . But we can view this two ways as I see it.

1. As something to despair over

2. As a blind spot that needs mending. And be happy that some research found it so we can do so.

I dont know who all these ppl are, bc I have never even heard that before.

Only thing I can think of is these must be extremely poor, uneducated people. But it still doesnt make sense that they would make up a quarter of the US population.

One neither needs to be poor or uneducated to hold odd idea's . And in the case geocentrist's  they may be wrong but they are not dumb. I have spoken to quite a few of them. Most genocentrists follow the Tycho System developed by Tycho Brahe which essentially states.

Tycho Brahe developed his own version of geocentrism, a geoheliocentric model now named after him. According to Tycho the Earth is motionless while the moon and sun move around the Earth. The other planets orbited the sun rather than the earth;

Most genocentrists  believe this is better then our current heliocentric model .And  will go absurd lengths to defend it to any counter . Now the general reason  you probably never hear of them is most feel they will be ridiculed for holding such idea's .

Because the number of possible false claims is so large that a randomly chosen one is almost certainly false. Only evidence changes those odds.

But when people make claims, are they generally choosing from a pool of random claims? That seems unlikely. It seems rather that most of the time they are choosing from a pool of claims they actually believe and usually, in order to actually believe in a claim there must at least be some kernel of truth to it, which cuts out most random propositions.

But you are aware that people fervently believe competely contradictory things all the time. Is the kernel of truth you are referring to then the common denominator of all of those? You won't be left with much, if anything.

Some here at AF have expressed puzzlement at why atheist criticize the Abrahamic religions just because we don’t believe in them. One even likened it to his criticizing Zeus.

As I said in th tat thread, if zeusian evangelists tried to get public schools to teach Mr. Olympus and Hades in science classes or a group of them tried to get a law passed saying only those shot by Cupid could get married, it’s very unlikely they wouldn’t have anything to say about it.

That crap is taught in school as well as Buddhism and the basics of islam. Christianity however is not to be mentioned.

Theists teach their respective doctrines as if they were self evident truths.  I’ve never heard one say. “This is just my opinion, but I       think my god is probably the only true god, and those who disagree are welcome to express     their own opinions.”

I've always said none of us have it 100% right. We are simply charged to do the best we can with the material God gave us. That is our only charge!

Yet, these “truths” don’t stand up to close scrutiny, so the theist would much rather not be subjected to scrutiny.

which is why we post here.

Which makes me wonder why    they come to an atheist website looking for fiat credulity and act dismayed when they find it not.

Real atheists don't argue. You guys are looking for evidence to become atheists or you are misotheists.. eitherway there is still hope
