1) Hitler; catholic all his life, and most of the major nazis were either catholic, lutheran or reformed. Those who weren't were revivalist germanic pagans.
2) Stalin; orthodox for the vast majority of his life
3) Enver Pasha, Jevdet Bey, Talaat Pasha, Djemal Pasha, Şükrü Kaya, Mustafa Ataturk (some of the leading lights of the Armenian genocide), all devoutly muslim
4) Pol Pot; a weird mix of buddhism and jesuitical catholicism

You can notice the one conspicuous omission, which is Mao Tse Tung. He's the only one we can be reasonably certain was atheist, but even with him, there was a large co-option of religion and religious practice to legitimise his rule. The current Chinese fad for neo-confucianism (the slight changing of the cunfucian religion to support the CPC's autocratic rule) stems from Mao.

It was bound to happen. I remember in the '70s/80's how the Catholic church in my hometown went in for the (slightly) long-haired guy strumming the guitar during Mass thing -- their acknowledgement of times-a-changin' and a little something for the youngsters, I suppose. You know . . . Christy Woodstock for the hopelessly lame. So yeah, marathon fucking. Why not?

If their attendance figures among younger people don't start improving quickly, they may have to bring back brown acid, as well.
