I wouldn't be surprised if he was lying in wait to put a joke like this in his show. It's a dumb joke, and tasteless. But this is a major issue with liberals, and Maher is not shy about calling the left out on this. I wouldn't expect an apology, nor do I think one is necessary. Comedians telling jokes is nothing to get up in arms about.

Yeah I just watched it. And HBO bleeped the streaming version lol. It wasn't up all day, so I assume some HBO execs were having a meeting to decide what to do about it.
It was a meh joke, but the timing was better than I thought it would be. But even if it was tasteless, it was still very clearly a joke.

I haven't watched it and have no intention to do so. I find this sort of humor to be in extremely poor taste. I certainly won't be defending him even if I do support his right to be offensive. I just don't care to give that sort of free speech my audience.

Trivializing racism or racist slurs are as bad if not worse than racism itself. I'm not supportive of it.
If he could so casually use this word on live television I can imagine his conversations behind closed doors.

But taking power to offend from a word would be good too wouldnt.
He was not using it to offend anyone it was directed at himself.

I just think the joke was bad, for the lack of funniness of it.
The joke was relying on the controversy of the word nigger to be funny but I think it still flopped.
Jokes like that need to at least have some foundation in reality to work(my opinion) Maher is a rich Jew, it would have been funnier for him to say I'm too rich and Jewish to work in a field.
Other people might find it funny because it is so detached from reality and random, but not me. If he was black it might have worked as a joke too.
Didn't south park do a full nigger guy episode? That was pretty funny and I don't think anyone rational would accuse them of racism just for saying the word.
