Bill Maher Draws Backlash After Using Racial Slur

RE: Bill Maher Draws Backlash After Using Racial Slur
The Y-donor was a kluxer. Even he didn't use "nigger" as much as I hear it today. I find it interesting that some folks have the privilege to use it and others don't. That seems to be discrimination to me.

BTW, have Ben Sasse grow some stubble, wear some cutoffs and a Roundup logo on his baseball style cap, and I would rim, edge and fuck him silly.

And I'd let Maher watch and do a running commentary.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

That's because in on group it's a term of kinship in any other it's a racial slur .

In this case thou Bill was not calling someone else one so it's okay

He is apologizing. However , NPR is using "the N Word" in its headline.

Usually, I don't take the the self-censorship position, but in this case I do. In America, the legacy of slavery and racial segregation makes it a special case. Attaining those freedoms was so hard fought and their prior affect so socially devastating that constant vigilance is necessary.

Me too Big Grin He was talking about himself. I hate racist! I was concerned when I heard the news. He's still pretty fuckin awesome in my book
I was a born-again christian for many years then I got woke.. and now life is better in so many ways. It's taking me time to see my value and find my voice, but the reward is liberating knowing my path is not dictated or controlled by fear of death and the unknown.  Casting off the shackles of religion is pretty fucking awesome. The beautiful people I've met on this forum have more heart and compassion than any group of people I've been apart of. So back off Jesus and followers, because this bitch is done with Chu.  Shy

But this is a major issue with liberals, and Maher is not shy about calling the left out on this. I wouldn't expect an apology, nor do I think one is necessary. Comedians telling jokes is nothing to get up in arms about.

Honestly, I don't even consider the sort of people who would have such a knee-jerk reaction at a joke like this to actually be progressive. I hate to play the "No True Scotsman" card, but given that he used it to draw a parallel between the modern day senator and slavery (a joke which admittedly did not land very well), using a pejorative term for black people on HIMSELF, it's honestly become obvious that the people who treat any use of the word like it's a racist rant are not really progressive. They're just as reactionary as the right-wingers they consider their enemies. It's just that the sort of people they empathise with are more in line with the political Left than the Right.

A tempest in a teapot. Ill-advised on his part ... but he never struck me as terribly bright anyway.

Yeah, Bill Maher has been known to vacillate between insightful and idiotic with an ease that's quite frankly terrifying. A lot of Religulous was pretty reasonable (not all of it, of course, but at least quite a bit of it still holds up), however, around the same time, he latched onto the anti-vaxxer movement and even at one point made remarks about how Louis Pasteur repudiated germ theory on his deathbed. He's also worked with PeTA, for what it's worth.

I hated the movie. Sure, he aired out the major arguments against religiosity, but in such a manner that supported, or perhaps provided, society with the atheist-as-asshole stereotype.

He doesn't represent me at all.
