If they are considered to have a need that falls under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, then under Federal Law, the school (public OR private) MUST make accommodations for the individual needs of your children. The private school cannot, under the law, refuse to provide accommodations that would help your children learn in the Least Restrictive Environment possible. They also must provide an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for each child, which must get updated on a yearly basis by the IEP team. Parents are to be a part of that IEP team and are to have an equal say in how the IEP is developed for each child.

If this isn't happening, I suggest you look in your local area for either an attorney that specializes in Special Education, or find a Special Education Advocate. Usually your local ARC chapter will have someone to assist you.

Over all I am happy with the accommodations the school allows for my son and others with similar problems.  I have had some trouble with personal who work in the "Reasource" department from time to time but we have been able to work these issues out satisfactorily.

thanks for the advise

I am curious as to if I should flat out tell my oldest (13) I do not believe in god or do I let him arrive to that conclusion on his own?

Well no wonder you became an atheist..Smile
Catholicism is a satanic corrupt perverted "religion" and must have put thousands off Jesus over the centuries!
We need them and any other organised religion like we need a hole in the head!
Remember, Jesus said "You have one teacher, me" (Matt 23:10)

As for your son, if he asks you why you're an atheist, just tell him straight out why you don't like Jesus, and take it from there..Smile

Please do not put words in my mouth.
I never said I don't like Jesus.

I have no feeling either way.

That is like saying because I do not believe in the Easter Bunny (tooth fairy, santa, ect) that I dislike them.

When my son's ask why I am an atheist, I'll tell them that once I saw through the farce, I just could not unsee it.

I really do not want to push them either way.
My main goal is to guide them to be self sufficient, well adjusted, productive members of society.
If they believe in god that is fine, if they don't that is fine to.

Just be honest about Yahweh with them. The bloodthirsty genocidal psychopath that no one has any business lying to them about. That'll kill the illusion pretty fucking quick and you'll have done nothing but told them the truth. Might scar them for life in the process depending on which stories you read them...
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

I don't remember much about Jesus being a bloodthirsty genocidal psychopath.

I do remember the general theme of the sermon on the mount.

"Do unto others as you would have done unto you."  I don't think Jesus was the first to say this but arguably he is credited with popularizing the idea.

I will agree that people have done some pretty terrible things in his name, but i am not sure that who ever Jesus was is responsible.  My understanding is that there were quite a few messiahs wondering around Israel around 0 AD.

I am of the opinion that the Jesus we know through the gospels is a merger of several people.

1- The entire nation of Israel plus the Roman garrison ddn't see the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa etc, but they all saw Jesus, spot the difference?..Wink
2- What "farce" are you talking about?
3- Jesus said "don't go along with the stupid ways of the world", so surely he's a great role model for all kids?
4- He also said he was an alien visitor with awesome powers, and scientists estimate there are thousands of alien civilisations in our galaxy alone, you either believe that or you don't..Smile
