Texting and Driving

RE: Texting and Driving
It infuriates me; and they're always speeding on top it. I get so angry when I see it; especially when I have my kids in the car.

I didn't want to stop next to the fire to call it in. I used to car pool, and my car pool buddy was texting (not the first time) and came within inches of rear-ending someone on the freeway. I told him that that was the last time I was riding with him. There are enough people driving any kind of stupid; there's no point in being in a car where the driver is 100% that way, it just increases one's odds of getting hurt. I got hit and run on my bicycle back in November, fortunately just hit the handlebar, and I wasn't even knocked down (just into the curb, and managed to catch myself). As a result, I quit riding my bike. I've had many other close calls, that was just the final one. I suspect that the person who hit me probably didn't even realize that it had happened. The signal was too far ahead for this old man to make a pursuit and get the license plate information. Sad

So, you made the call while fleeing the scene of the crime?

RE: Texting and Driving
I've never gone as far to text or take a selfie or things like that.

I think it's sometimes easy to get complacent and get distracted sometimes at least for a split second in all the hours people spend on the road in their life.

In general I'd say I drive like quite a paranoid focused person, but I can't say I'm a total perfect driver.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

It just goes on...

So, what you are saying is that cell phones thin the herd.  A good point.

I don't have a phone or a car. I'm innocent by default.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

Don't have a cell phone and have never texted, but I rarely even listen to the radio when driving because I find it too distracting.

I don't drive.
I don't even own a cell phone.

In the UK it's illegal to text while driving and illegal to make a phone call unless you are om hands free, but lot's of people still do it.

RE: Texting and Driving
Pretty sure it must be illegal everywhere but it could hardly be more common here. Especially waiting for a light to change I have missed a chance to cross because idiots want to text until only they have time to cross. I have checked incoming texts while waiting for a light to change. No way am I going to send a text myself until I get where I'm going - though if I could mend the relationship with Siri I might try that. I tend to curse her out when she comes on when I'm trying to access an icon. Not sure if she is programmed to hold a grudge or not, but the map/directions lady seems to become a little exasperated when I deviate from her advice - the bitch.
